The arguments against the foie gras ban: 1. We only torture them for 3 weeks 2. Other things are also torture 3. People should be able to choose torture 4. Sometimes it’s made w/ 1/2 the torture 5. Is this enough torture to care about? 6. Other bad things happen 7. The children!

exactly why veganism is intersectional. the current food system is simply inequitable. we manage to feed 80+billion land animals yearly while 600+million humans face chronic hunger. if you are left-wing, you should be a part of a movement pushing for systemic food justice.
For everyone saying "we can't work on meat reduction because we need to work on hunger / the economy / human rights", I have good news for you! Lowering meat reduction will ALSO help those things!

Jordan isn't a lawyer and evidently cannot parse legal text. His stated concern about overbreadth -- that this initiative would ban the sale of basically all fowl in DC -- is misplaced and downstream of his professional limitations.
Guys, this foie gras ban is so sloppily written that it would ban Jewish delis from selling chopped chicken liver. Absolutely vote no on this shit.

This is the most honest take- people simply don’t want to be told what they can and can’t eat. Food somehow occupies a different part of our minds when it comes to right and wrong, and importantly who decides. Somehow, sadly, this includes torture and force labor…
don’t tell me what i can eat! this is why the east coast drives me crazy, how does it impact you what i choose to order at le dip?!?!

If you grow up in DC you say ON. If you first learn about DC on tv or associate it mostly with our nation’s capital then you say In except when referring to the govt. but the neighborhood is a hill not just that big old building.

The timing of this can’t be a coincidence or it’s wild that this is happening at the same time as DC foie-gras-gate
You want to lose my vote in record time? Suggest that I eat liver... I'm still haunted by the revolting smell of liver cooking in my childhood kitchen.

Hey fam, do we think corporate restaurant conglomerates should stay in business at the expense of suppressing living wages or even minimum wage for food service? No, right?
Appreciate you taking some time to learn about our city! @grok what has happened to restaurant employment in DC since I82 went into effect?

A lot of people out here seem super happy to knowingly support torture and to reinforce the right of humans to torture for profit, to any extent desirable. Who here doesn’t think we should preserve the right to torture, under any circumstances?

Hey chat, is this true? Is it a product if factory farming?
I support the ban, but it is a little funny that both sides bill foie gras as a delicacy when it's not. Most (all) foie gras sold on the East Coast comes from one factory farm in NY. It is sold as a "delicacy" mainly because of marketing and low demand from its odd taste.

The alarm, logical fallacies, extremes. All for a luxury good that few buy, causes suffering & has low marginal utility of pleasure or nourishment. Food has a specific place in the habitus- a source of cultural power. People are loathe to give up small things even when moral.
