One of my favorite Milky Way photos from ISS, with the multicolored lights of Southeast Asia streaking across the exposure from orbital velocity, while distant stars remain fixed by my star tracker. The long exposure intensifies the atmospheric airglow into a thick red band!

Betelgeuse is fading again, and the most famous red star in the sky is starting to feel like a countdown.
It’s been dimming since August. Again. That word matters, because this star already pulled the same trick back in late 2019, when it dropped so hard that people genuinely started watching for an explosion.
Here’s the part that gets me. When Betelgeuse finally goes supernova, nobody will need a telescope or a live feed to catch it. The blast will be visible from right here on Earth, with your own eyes.
Step outside and find Orion. That red glow in the top left corner?
It’s living on borrowed time.

When the Oxford children's dictionary discarded dozens of nature-words—"dandelion," "fern," "starling"—as irrelevant to children's imagination and replaced them with words like "broadband" and "cut-and-paste," this inspired act of resistance was born: themarginalian.org/2019/06/1…

The Moon's the North Wind's cooky.
He bites it, day by day,
Until there's but a rim of scraps
That crumble all away.
The South Wind is a baker.
He kneads clouds in his den,
And bakes a crisp new moon that . . . greedy North Wind . . . eats . . . again!

The Moon Looks Upside Down in Australia — And Physics Explains Why! 🌕🌍
Same Moon. Same craters. Completely different perspective.
Look at the full Moon from the United States, then travel to Australia, and you might notice something surprising: its familiar dark patches and bright craters appear almost upside down!
But the Moon hasn't flipped. Your position on Earth has changed.
Because Earth is a sphere, observers in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres have different orientations relative to the sky.
People in Australia are effectively viewing the Moon from a different angle than people in the United States. The lunar features remain exactly where they are, but their apparent orientation changes.
And here's something even more fascinating: both hemispheres generally see the same near side of the Moon, thanks to a phenomenon called tidal locking.
So whether you're watching the Moon rise over New York or Sydney, you're looking at the same ancient lunar landscape — just from a different perspective.
One Moon. Two hemispheres. A beautiful reminder that even the universe looks different depending on where you stand. ✨
Have you ever noticed the Moon looking different while traveling?
