Hello everyone. Today, we’re announcing that Chia Name Service (CNS) will stop accepting new domain registrations, and future service will migrate to XCHandles.
Below are the details on the migration and how existing CNS names will be handled. 👇 (1/6)

For expired CNS names that still meet the rules:
The original registrant will receive a four-month priority period to decide whether to register the corresponding XCHandle and try the new system.
Eligible names must be 3–63 characters and use only lowercase a–z and 0–9.

(PS: No registration fee will be charged during renewal, only the annual fee and royalties)
Renewal process:
1. Search for the domain you previously registered. If it’s expired, an expiration notice and a renewal button will appear.
2. Click renew to generate an offer.
3. Use your wallet that previously held your CNS NFT to accept the offer. Once accepted, the expired NFT will be automatically destroyed, and a new CNS NFT will be issued to your wallet.
4. If your domain expires without renewal, it will stop resolving and enter a grace period. During this period, only the original holder can renew the domain. If the grace period ends without renewal, the domain will be released, and anyone can register it. (Currently, we are offering a grace period of more than six months for domains registered last year).

Currently, the CNS domain fee is divided into three parts:
- Registration Fee: Only charged at initial registration. Used to support developers within the Chia ecosystem (not limited to CNS).
- Annual Fee: Charged yearly, employed to maintain normal operations of CNS services and support of CNS-associated ecosystem.
- Royalty: 5%, utilized to incentivize our CNS agents.

As CNS starts pushing forward with integration work, the discussion on how to adapt multiple .xch services pops up again. In the past, because our team was always busy with development work, there was little direct response.
However, thanks to the discussion by @ivsky_xch and many freinds, with ivsky voicing his confusion, we’ve realized that it's time to provide a detailed explanation. 🌱
