Jinan’s 731-year transformation, from Zhao Mengfu's 1295 painting “Autumn Colors on the Que and Hua Mountains” to photographs from 1903 and the city in 2026.
Known as the “City of Springs,” Jinan has 70+ famous natural springs. Baotu Spring, its best-known, has inspired poets for centuries.
Zhao’s painting depicts a tranquil rural landscape with fishing boats, homesteads, and two peaks northeast of Jinan: rounded Mount Que on the left and pointed Mount Hua on the right. The scholar-artist painted it for his friend Zhou Mi, whose family came from the area. Having served there as an official, Zhao created the scroll so Zhou could see his ancestral home. The original is now held at the National Palace Museum in Taipei.
More than 700 years later, both mountains remain. In the early 1900s, farmland and the expanding city spread across the plain beneath them.
Today, Jinan, Shandong Province’s capital, is home to more than 9 million people. Skyscrapers and urban infrastructure stretch toward the hills, which remain visible in the distance.
🇨🇳 A Chinese glass company turned the riots in France into free advertising. Hengxinfeng didn’t film a thing—it simply posted a video showcasing its unbreakable windows, and it went viral.
EPIC TROLLING!
Just can’t believe that this place was once desert and now an apple orchard! The ppl in #Yulin, Shaanxi and all Chinese ppl are so great! This is what poverty alleviation means! @This_is_Yulin @visitshaanxi @ShaanxiPlus
Chinese language can degrade a name without changing its sound. 姆巴佩 pèi(#Mbappé) → 配 (pèi, “deserve”) → 呸 (pēi, the sound of spitting). Same syllable, one tone shift: from naming to judging to spitting. English can’t do this — change “Mbappé” by one sound and it’s no longer him. Chinese keeps him audible while turning his name into a different expression. Tone is semantics. Interesting. #learningChinese #Mbappé

The man you called a "dictator" led the Chinese people to win national independence and founded the People’s Republic of China in 1949. He ended centuries of feudal exploitation, helped farmers get land, and laid the foundation for China’s industry, education and national defense. He supported national liberation movements in Asia, Africa and Latin America. He led the country to aid Korea and Vietnam against foreign invasion, sent medical teams and supplies to developing nations, and stood with oppressed peoples worldwide.

French footballer #KylianMbappé has sparked widespread outrage with his inappropriate remarks concerning China, which hurt the feelings of the Chinese people.
In response, multiple Chinese enterprises including Mengniu and Eastroc Beverage have officially announced the immediate termination of all commercial cooperation with Mbappé and removed all relevant promotional materials.
There is an unshakable principle in cross-border business cooperation: anyone who seeks to gain profits and commercial opportunities from the Chinese market must show due respect for China and its people.
#KevinTsai was spotted cheering at the campaign launch of #ShenPaoyang—a "Taiwan independence" diehard. His excuse was "Just checking it out." One thing for sure, no one should earn money and support from Chinese ppl while colluding with separatist forces. All Chinese ppl will say NO. So why not say proudly that you are a Chinese. #蔡康永 #Taiwan
Lemme explain this China-#Turkey online clash in simple words: The spark came from Turkey's new school textbooks, which place Central Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and parts of western China into a so-called "Turkic world." When Turkish netizens tried to persuade a young Uyghur woman online to "return to her Turkic roots," she simply replied that she is Chinese. That refusal ignited the argument. What followed was telling. Chinese netizens responded with two very different weapons. The first was mockery — a meme merging the Turkish crescent-and-star with #PatrickStar from #SpongeBob SquarePants (below), which spread rapidly and visibly rattled the other side. The second was historical argument: when Turkish users repeated the old claim that the Great Wall was built to keep out the Turks, Chinese users pointed out that the Wall predates the #Turkic political entities by centuries, and that modern Anatolian Turks are genetically closer to Greeks and Armenians than to ancient Turkic peoples.
Calling Confucius Institutes a security threat treats a classroom like a battlefield. A Senate probe found no spying. Funding isn’t the same as wrongdoing. Shutting down Chinese programs doesn’t make us safer, it just makes us know less. Real security comes from understanding.

Check out what I discovered at Zhuge Bagua Village in Lanxi, @izhejiang . Today, all the descendants of Zhuge Liang in the village offer sacrifices to their ancestors.
Zhuge Liang (181–234 AD), also known as Kongming, was a renowned strategist, statesman and philosopher of China’s Three Kingdoms period. Widely respected for his wisdom, loyalty and foresight, he remains one of the most celebrated historical figures in Chinese culture.
