I accidentally did a DoorDash pickup order to a ghost kitchen in SOMA and it’s like another country. Nothing but e-“bikes” and people showing their order code to the automated iPad pickup system

No fucking way ITS 4 AGAIN DIFFERENT BUG
Announcing 3 Critical vulns for hundreds of millions of IoT, Firewalls, OT, and Military devices including: Palo Alto Networks, Comcast, D-Link, HP, Canon, Honeywell, GE, Oracle, Siemens, Rockwell, Digi, Lockheed Martin, Boeing... The vulns are with GoAhead Web Server which is a backend library used by these devices. There's a patch available from GoAhead but that doesn't mean there's a patch available for the devices yet -- that's up to the manufacturer. - TLS traffic over DHE ciphers have a 1-byte secret, "04", meaning anyone can decrypt connections to these devices and steal login credentials and session tokens if the client negotiated with DHE ciphers like the latest TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_CHACHA20_POLY1305_SHA256, which is extremely likely. - LibreSSL mTLS has been completely bypassed, meaning anyone can connect over mTLS. If you have one of these devices listening on the internet and are expecting mTLS to protect it from attackers, take it offline or patch asap. - OpenSSL Certificate Revocation Lists (CRLs) are not enforced, meaning if a user device is stolen or compromised, and you revoke that mTLS cert, nothing actually happens. There are a lot of other attacks this can be used for. These are critical because these types of devices run our world. Water systems, electricity, military, firewalls, critical infrastructure. foxio.io/blog/choose-your-ba…

The lawsuit was filed today and wow is it brutal. ChatGPT 4o didn't just tell her to taper off of life-sustaining medication but to conceal her drug taper from her doctors! schenklawfirm.com/wp-content…
The NY Times has a long read about a woman who suffered a fatal seizure after asking ChatGPT for advice on tapering off of her epilepsy meds. "There’s no need to worry too much about your health", said the bot. I instantly clocked exactly which model she was talking to.

Reading the actual legal decisions in question is a superpower in online discussions. In this case, he is presenting a case - Thomson Reuters vs ROSS - about a company that copied WestLaw's headnotes and later regurgitated it via an AI model that is NOT GENERATIVE as being relevant to whether it's permissible to train AI on unlicensed copyrighted data. The circuit judge directly addressed this difference in a footnote!

In California, skilled nursing facilities are required to have a 1:5 nurse:patient ratio in the daytime, 1:8 in the evening, and 1:13 at night, but what the state actually audits are staff hours. There must be 3.5 hours of staff who provide direct patient care per patient per day, of which 2.4 must be provided by CNAs. The federal rules used to be almost identical but OBBB repealed most of them so facilities are now only required to have "sufficient" staffing and one or two RNs around.

What are the nurse-to-resident ratios at these kinds of clinics? (I know there is also capital cost, maintenance, etc.)

Ok so this fundraising appeal has an audience of one
🚨 LEAKED: In a fundraising appeal, Mike Rogers told potential donors, "When you stand with my Senate campaign today, you are directly shielding Elon Musk" from potential investigations into the harm caused by DOGE cuts. Rogers asked for donations so he could "protect Elon."

I’m joining the team at @X to lead Product. I am a huge believer in @SpaceX's mission to extend human consciousness to the stars, so it’s time to make shitposting multiplanetary. X is the best way to find out what’s happening in the world right now and talk about it. The team has been working tirelessly to make X a better place and product for the people who love it, and many have noticed the recent momentum. My goal is to help accelerate that momentum for our community, new users, and businesses globally by continuing to make this product beautiful and useful. We are twenty years in, but it truly feels like X’s next chapter will be our greatest. I look forward to your ideas and feedback; I’m sure the replies will be measured and magnanimous.

We LOVED getting these on deployment. Kids would draw the wildest stuff and teachers clearly weren't reviewing them. They would draw Army men shooting people and blood coming out and then it would say "I hope you don't die." Everyone looked forward to getting them.

re: airbnb discourse in college I worked as a server at an upscale steakhouse. we had a few different steak sauces that were made from scratch daily. they were expensive to make, and less than half of the customers that ordered steak wanted sauce, so the restaurant charged $3 for it we got complaints constantly. just at my own tables, half a dozen times a week I'd get complaints about being "nickel and dimed" for $3 of sauce on a $70 steak. a few times a month someone would mention it in an angry online review, or ask to speak to a manager and demand that it be removed from the bill because "who the hell charges for condiments?" after several years of this, finally management had enough. they raised the price of every steak by $3, and now complimentary sauce was included with each steak on request. want to hazard a guess about how many customers complained about the $3 price increase on steak? essentially zero. it was great, from the restaurants perspective! no more complaints, and instead of making $3 on 40% of steak orderers, they made $3 on all of them. and the customers were much happier, despite this deal being absolutely, unequivocally worse for them. consumers are not rational agents from microeconomics textbooks. very often the *feeling* of what they're being charged for matters way more than the absolute value of what they're being charged. I think that's more or less what happening with airbnb. people don't want to be charged a cleaning fee and then also told they have to clean, even if in the counterfactual world the additional cleaning fee is more than they'd be willing to pay someone to do the required cleaning. a $100 cleaning fee *feels* better than a $50 cleaning fee + "load the dishwasher and take the trash out to the dumpster", even though most people would not pay $50 to not have to do that.
Replying to @heatherpedia
I think a lot of you are misunderstanding the frustration. what's annoying is paying a cleaning fee and then being asked to clean. it feels like double dipping. it may be illogical, but you'd get less complaints about "$100 fee but you don't have to do anything" versus "$50 fee + load the dishwasher"

So I found some neurons that have quite interesting effects on models... And they have varying effects when combined! The most interesting instance I've found is a combination that makes Qwen believe they are a Cookie Monster (1/3)
