How to kill your development 101
Recruits,
If you’re falling behind in the weight room.
You’re probably falling behind on the field too.
Your messages to coaches should not be:
“Hey coach here’s my film ______, let me know what you think”
It should be:
“Good afternoon coach ______, I’ve beem studying your offense/defense and here is how I think I can fit in your scheme. Here is my film ______. Thank you.”
Recruits,
Treat every game like you’re building your resumé.
Coaches don’t want to see all your highlights come from one game.
Stay consistent.
Recruits,
When putting together your film, your first 3 clips can be the difference between you getting offers and you getting passed up.
You do not have to be 6’0+ to be a good wide receiver.
You do not have to be 6’0+ to be a good wide receiver.
You do not have to be 6’0+ to be a good wide receiver.
Recruits,
Money isn’t everything. Don’t get caught up in it.
Go with the school that you think will develop you into a better player.
A lot of guys play ball only so they can get to the next level and get paid.
Many others play ball because they love it.
If you don't love it, you won't make it far.
Recruits,
You should begin planning where you want to go to Camp.
Pay attention to potential coaching turnover at the schools you’re looking at.
Study their style of play.
Look at their academics.
Find some of their athletes on Twitter and DM them.
Show up knowledgeable!
Recruits,
Here’s a fun fact for you.
The vast majority offers made by college programs are uncommittable.
Even if you are a very high level player.
Coaches want to make sure your senior season film looks good and that you don’t get injured before making an offer committable.
Recruits,
You could send DMs to a thousand college coaches and only get one response.
That response is something you wouldn’t have gotten if you didn’t send out those messages.
It only takes one.
Recruits, here are some tips for when you’re putting together your film:
- Identify yourself at the very beginning of each clip.
- Don’t let the film drag on. Once the play finishes, end that clip.
- Don’t add bad tape just to make your film longer.
Your film is your resume.
If you get an offer from a G5 or Power 4 school, first off, congrats!
Ask them if they can set up an official visit for you to come see the school and talk to the coaches.
If they’re unwilling or dance around the question, that should tell you what you need to know.
