After over six months in the making, LifeHQ is now available! 🎉 (Actually, it took a lot longer than that. It took me years to refine the workflows I’ve included in LifeHQ, and the last six months have been spent packaging it all together and writing an entire accompanying values-based PKM curriculum). This epic done-for-you Obsidian vault is the culmination of everything I’ve ever learned about productivity, creativity, and personal knowledge management (or PKM). In fact, I actually wrote over 60,000 words for the how-tos and deep dives included in LifeHQ (not to mention all the annotated screenshots and overview videos). It’s kind of like the Hitchhiker’s Guide to Galaxy, but for PKM. But the best part is that you can just use it. It includes preconfigured settings, plugins, and workflows for every level of the PKM Stack: • A comprehensive journaling system for personal growth • A complete system for habit tracking via Daily Notes • A custom task and project management system that rolls up tasks into essential lists • A multi-scale planning for running your own personal retreats & translating quarterly intentions to daily actions •The book notes workflow I personally use to develop ideas + a library of 100 of my personal book notes LifeHQ includes everything you need to run your entire life out of Obsidian. It’s the perfect system for helping you live a life in alignment with your vision and values. There are two versions available: • A Do It Yourself option which includes the entire LifeHQ product (including a reference vault, a blank vault you can customize yourself, a private Obsidian Publish site, and a collection of my personal book notes) • A Do It Together option that includes LifeHQ + a year of access to The Library, my private PKM community where you’ll get access to monthly workshops and all Practical PKM & LifeTheme cohorts for 1 year. The Do It Yourself option is $197, and gives you lifetime access to the product and all updates. The Do It Together option is $597 ($197 for LifeHQ + $400/year for community access). The community is currently closed, but when it opens again, it will cost $497 alone (that’s what I charged for the last Practical PKM cohort alone). This option locks you in at the lower rate as long as your membership is active. As a bonus for those who buy during the launch, I’ll also be doing a live onboarding call on Monday, October 7th at 2pm CT (3pm ET, 12pm PT). This onboarding call is available to anyone who buys either version. You can find out more at practicalpkm.com/lifehq.

It's 3 PM, you've been 'working' all day, and you've accomplished... absolutely nothing. I had days like this, and it drove me nuts. Then I read “Hyperfocus” by @Chris_Bailey, and discovered the cause: I was misusing my brain. The game-changer for me was understanding that we have access to two complementary types of attention: • Hyperfocus: Allows for deep, focused work • Scatterfocus: Enables creative problem-solving The trick? Getting into the "zone" of one or the other, rather than rapid-firing between the two in a single work session and never fully engaging either. Inspired by these concepts, I decided to make some changes to my work routine. Here are the adjustments I've implemented since reading "Hyperfocus": • Calendar vs. To-Do List I now put important tasks directly on my calendar, using a to-do list for the rest. This helps me allocate proper time for what matters most. • Revived the Pomodoro Technique I've dusted off the good old Pomodoro technique for my deep focus blocks. It's amazing how effective 25-minute sprints can be. • Scheduled Mind-Wandering Twice a week, I now have 15-minute "mind-wandering" blocks. It's surprising what ideas pop up when you give your brain some free rein. • Meditation To build resistance to unwanted mind-wandering, I'm getting back into meditation. I’ve started small – just 1 minute when transitioning from scatterfocus to hyperfocus blocks. The result? I'm getting more done during my focused work sessions, and I'm also coming up with more creative solutions during my deliberate "unfocused" time. It's like I've found a better balance between productivity and creativity. I'm typically resistant to reading productivity books because I know so much of the content already – but the value is in being inspired to actually do it. It's like a mental tune-up, reminding me of what I already know and introducing a few new tweaks to try. In the end, the key takeaway for me was the importance of intentionally separating focused and unfocused time, rather than letting them bleed into each other throughout the day. This simple shift has made a big difference in both my productivity and my creative output. If you've read "Hyperfocus" or have your own focus hacks, I'd love to hear about them! What strategies have you found most effective for managing your attention?
