A lottery nobody wants to win.
The prize: leave your farm and move into a half-empty city with a target on it.
One in ten is picked.
And the community's response to the volunteers: not pity. Blessing.
Day 302 · Nehemiah 11
A third of a shekel a year. A rota for who brings the firewood.
This isn't poetry. It's the small print of a promise to God.
Israel promised big at Sinai. This time they put in the price.
Day 301 · Nehemiah 10
Three times, at the lowest point in Israel's story, this prayer says what God did not do.
Not deserted. Not abandoned. Not ended.
Find the verses: Nehemiah 9:17, 19, 31.
Day 300 · Nehemiah 9
"The joy of the LORD is your strength."
You've seen it on a mug.
But who said it, to whom, and why were they crying?
Day 299 · Nehemiah 8
The Bible prints the same list twice.
Hundreds of names, once near the start of the story and again 93 years later.
Compare Ezra 2:5 with Nehemiah 7:10. The family of Arah.
What do you notice?
Day 298 · Nehemiah 7:1-73a
It's Friday, but Sunday is coming! We’d love to welcome you to Christ Church Hemel this weekend. 🙌

Halfway through building God's city, something is happening among God's own people so wrong that, when it's said out loud, the men responsible can't find a word.
Nehemiah doesn't reach for his rank.
He reaches for the fear of God.
Day 296 · Nehemiah 5
Stone in one hand. A weapon in the other.
People have borrowed that picture ever since.
Before you baptise it as the normal Christian life, wait. Nehemiah 4 isn't finished with these watchmen.
Day 295 · Nehemiah 4
A building list. Dozens of names, gate by gate.
And one line of quiet disgrace: some important men would not bend their backs.
The ordinary men of Tekoa built a second section.
Remembered twice, or remembered once for nothing.
Day 294 · Nehemiah 3
Ezra refused the king's soldiers.
Nehemiah took them.
Same road. Same God. Same gracious hand on both.
Faith refused the escort. Faith accepted it.
Which would you have been?
Day 293 · Nehemiah 2
