A couple of months ago I had a new experience of g-forces during my astronaut training. ⁣👨‍🚀 ⁣ Throughout my career as a fighter pilot and test pilot, I have been in the centrifuge pulling lots of g-loads many times. During those runs, when simulating turning with a fighter jet, the perceived force is directed from the head down into the seat. When launching on a rocket towards space, you are seated in a lying position, which directs the force perpendicular to the chest instead.⁣ ⁣ Having the force pushing you back in the seat is much more comfortable than down in the seat, since the latter will force your blood from your brain, and you must do straining maneuvers to not pass out. However, the time you are under continuous acceleration is generally much longer when launching to space than turning with an aircraft.⁣ During this centrifuge ride in particular, I withstood the high levels of acceleration during ascent and reentry of the @SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft that will take me to the @Space_Station and back. ⁣ #Muninn #Ax3⁣
