Spent the last 3 months building out of China, SF, and NYC. The startup cultures could not be more different.
China: less zero to one, more one to 1.1. Take tech that already exists and make it a bit cheaper, a bit better, a bit more useful. Your competition is relentless iteration.
NYC: everyone is optimizing everything. Fitness, social life, money, startups. People run five small ventures at once instead of one big bet. The goal is millionaire, not billionaire.
SF: one mission, total obsession. Everyone has a wild vision of the future and ignores every other part of life to build toward it.
