🦔 Pangolin Hunting in Southeast Nigeria: A Local Crisis Pangolin hunting in Southeast Nigeria is driven more by local consumption of its meat than by the global trade in its scales. Many rural communities view pangolins as a source of bushmeat and income, often unaware of the species' endangered status. While international demand for scales still exists, local markets and cultural food preferences remain the primary cause of hunting in the region. This shift challenges the usual focus on international trafficking as the main threat. Conservationists warn that without awareness and alternative livelihoods, the pangolin population in Nigeria could face serious decline—calling for urgent action to preserve this unique species. #coalcityconnect #saveendangeredspecies – at Nigeria
