Pierce was 100% getting declined (for performance reasons), while Suarez was declined in hopes to retrieve him (maybe) on a cheaper deal.
Pagan is tough.

I do believe this is the end of Pagan’s tenure as a Red, unfortunately.

Do you think the Reds made a mistake letting Raisel Iglesias walk?
Iglesias signed with the Cincinnati Reds in 2014 as an international free agent. He broke into the big leagues in 2015, the only year in which he was a primary starter for an MLB team.
Iglesias appeared in 18 games, starting in 16 of them. He pitched 95.1 innings, posting a 4.15 ERA, striking out 109 over that time frame (0.9 WAR).
Iglesias would continue pitching for the Reds (mostly as a reliever) from 2016-2020.
In 2017, he became the Reds primary closer, racking up 92 saves in three seasons. Iglesias posted a 2.38 ERA and a 2.49 ERA in back to back seasons, accumulating 2.0+ WAR in each season. Over that time, his strikeouts per/9 reached heights of 12.0+.
On December 7th, 2020, Iglesias was traded to the Los Angeles Angels to refrain from paying his $9+ million contract due to him that season.
The Reds return was Noe Ramirez (RHP), Leo Rivas (INF), and Cash Considerations.
Ramirez was signed to a 1-year, $1.175 million contract to avoid arbitration, but released him in spring training after he posted a 9.00 ERA.
Rivas stayed in the Reds minor leagues, playing 60 games with the Lookouts (.273/.382/.337) in 2021, and 95 games (.228/.318/.344) with the Lookouts/Bats in 2022. Rivas signed a minor league contract with the Mariners in 2023, busting into the bigs in 2024. He actually played 51 games for the Mariners this season, hitting .153/.267/.194.
I'm sure you can guess what happened in LA...
Iglesias posted a 2.57 ERA with 34 saves, finishing 11th in Cy Young voting. Iglesias had a 13.2 SO/9 and a 2.8 WAR.
Iglesias signed a 4-year, $58 million contract with the Angels following the 2021 season.
Iglesias was traded to the Braves at the deadline in 2022, where he's since spent the rest of his career. He actually posted a 0.34 ERA in 28 games with the Braves in 2022. Insane.
In 4.5 seasons with the Braves, his ERA has always been 3.21 or lower, posting a career (full season) best 1.95 ERA in 2024. Even at age 36 in 2026, Iglesias was an All-Star, recording 34 saves (again), and posting a 2.55 ERA.
This feels like a no brainer to me, but I'm curious to hear fans' opinions.

The Cincinnati Reds signed 28 year old, former Chicago Cub and Detroit Tiger, Nick Castellanos to a four-year, $64 million contract in January of 2020.
Castellanos played two seasons for the Reds before exercising his opt out clause after the 2021 season.
Castellanos was mediocre in 2020, hitting .225 with a .784 OPS (0.0 WAR), hitting 14 homers.
2021 was a different story, Castellanos and teammate Jesse Winker put together unbelievable season performances, each starting in the corner outfield spots for the National League All-Star Team.
In 2021, Castellanos hit .309 with a .939 OPS (3.1 WAR) in 585 plate appearances. Castellanos had 34 homers and 100 RBI's. Fun fact, he had the same amount of homers in 2021 as he did RBI's in 2020 (34).
On top of being named an All-Star and a Silver Slugger, he finished 12th in MVP voting.
As stated, Castellanos opted out of his contract and signed a 5-year, $200 million contract with the Phillies in early 2022.
Castellanos was good in Philly, putting together 500+ AB's in all four years, as well as .250+ in each season.
Castellanos was named an All-Star in 2023 and finished 23rd in MVP voting, but never really reached the height he reached in 2021 with Cincinnati.
Castellanos signed a vet.-minimum with the Padres before the 2026 season, but was DFA'd after hitting .191 in 39 games played.
Should the Reds have extended him following his monster season in 2021 or did they make the right move in letting him go to Philly?

204 days ago, Eugenio Suarez hit his first homer since returning as a Cincinnati Red.
His go-ahead 3-run shot gave the Reds a 3-2 win over Boston, claiming the first series of the year.
I get chills watching this. I had so much hope.

Do you remember Yunior Marte?
Marte appeared one time this season for the Reds, posting a 108.00 ERA.
Marte allowed four runs while only recording one out. 12.00 WHIP and a .750 BBA.

In 31 starts this year, Brady Singer threw ONE scoreless outing. Yes, Just one.
Brady Singer was paid $12,750,000 in 2026 to have a 5.85 ERA and pitch one time in which he didn't allow a single run.
For reference, Hunter Greene made five starts, and he had one scoreless outing. Greene was making $8,333,333 in 2026.
That's absolutely vile.
