No, parents should NOT demand their parental rights and liberties be squashed by the state with the Safe Screen Act.
Florida parents should take control of their kids' devices and tell schools and their EdTech programs to take a hike.
BUT parents don't know they can already do that because Florida school districts try to force kids on devices and KEEP them on devices.
Parents CAN protect their kids without this law or HB3. I did at home. At school, I hired a lawyer and got it done. I defended my PARENTAL RIGHTS from the STATE and so can every other parent.
We don't need unconstitutional laws. We just need to stand up for the God given rights we already have.

Florida's AG @JamesUthmeierFL just unveiled the Safe Screens Act: age verification for app stores, strict default limits on teen social media use, and a ban on AI chatbots simulating "companionship" with kids. Big Tech will fight it. Florida parents should demand it.
What person in an emergency wants to be ON camera in a vulnerable state?
How does this not discourage people from wanting to call for help when they need it most?
I have years of email after email warning them of EdTech privacy issues.
Maybe one day I will publish it all so the world can see what Florida's leaders willingly ignored.
Right, for years I kept thinking...if I could just explain it to them.
I tried to explain the EdTech data collection and privacy problems for years starting as early as 2013, then letter after letter, call after call...nothing. Not even curiosity from legislators or state leaders about my warnings.
My complaints to the state were "not in their jurisdiction."
No one wants to hear a peep about the technology, was like that in 2023 and nothing has changed.

Now that there has been sufficient damage done they want to go full on app lockdown for digital ID for all of us.
They ignored an opportunity to educate parents and the public for years, they could have started with the schools.
But that wasn't what the system wanted or had designs on for over a decade.
They were in denial for all the exciting claims of "the future" will be transformative. How do they like the transformation they ushered in now?
Legislators allowed it to get SO out of control that they now want to sell the public unconsitutional liberty destroying legislation.
The unintended consequences will be huge.
And it is so obvious, you might wonder if it is intentional.

At some point politicians either need to learn how this tech works and stop supporting laws that destroy our liberty or we have to assume they are really trying to implement DigitalID.

Instead of EDUCATING parents how to protect their kids from TECH, they want a nanny state.
These protect kids laws are instituting a digital ID framework. Where will this stop? Iris scanning?

If social media age verification was not enough to squash your liberty, they already claim to be expanding it to device level age verification.
Kids didn't get addicted without being handed an addictive device or being forced to use one in school.

Age-verification for adult websites is common sense, and handwringing over privacy concerns is misplaced. The legislation surrounding age-verification makes data retention illegal. This means that these laws actually enhance privacy protection online.
