It took longer than I had hoped, but congratulations to @AliMayorkas who today was confirmed by the Senate to lead @DHSgov. The challenges he faces are many, but I know he’s up to the task, as are the men and women of DHS who work to keep us safe each day.

As secretaries of DHS, each of us prepared for scenarios in which the U.S. Capitol might be attacked. None of us imagined the attack would come from Americans. I invite you to read our full statement, including why the president must be held to account.

I am sad and angry. This mob is abhorrent. The blame lies squarely with the president. His many incitements are responsible. @JoeBiden did what presidents do in trying to bring us together. All Americans should support his message of healing. And to the seditionists: Go home!

“Nothing more than an attempt to misuse these roles to play partisan politics and cause confusion which, again, is kind of the norm that we’ve seen throughout this election.”

Fact check: Security protections prevent voting in another person's name. More factual information to debunk misinformation at Michigan.gov/SOSFactCheck

ALT Fact check In Michigan, absentee ballots are not counted until a voter has twice provided signatures matching the one on file with their local election clerk. Similarly, upon arriving at a polling place, voters are asked to provide photo ID or sign an affidavit confirming their identity and eligibility to vote. Voting in another person’s name – regardless of if it is the other person’s maiden name or the person has moved – is illegal and any voter with actual evidence of such an act should report it immediately, in writing, to law enforcement so that it can be investigated and referred for prosecution. Actual occurrences of voter fraud are exceedingly rare.
