On a flight? Keep it in sight. ✈️🛄
When on an airplane, always keep charging devices where you can see them, and never charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If your device gets hot or starts smoking, alert a flight attendant immediately so the crew can respond fast.
Feels hot? Stop using it. ⚠️🔥
Immediately stop using and charging your device if it feels unusually hot, swells, leaks, smokes, smells strange, or makes popping/hissing sounds. A damaged battery can over heat and is a serious fire hazard.
For tools and rides, charge outside. 🚲🔋
Whenever possible, charge larger items like e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outdoors—and never block exits while charging. These batteries store massive amounts of energy, meaning a fire can spread extremely fast if the battery fails.
Fully charged? Time to unplug. 🔌⚡️
Don't leave your devices plugged in overnight or long after they hit 100%. Unplugging when full reduces heat build-up and prevents unnecessary stress on the battery.
Soft surface? Hard pass. 🛋️🚫
Always charge your devices on a hard, flat surface like a desk, table, or bare floor. Soft surfaces like beds, pillows, and couches trap heat and block airflow, causing batteries to quickly overheat.
Cheap charger? Don’t chance it. 🛑📱
Always use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. Knock-offs and cheap replacements often lack essential safety standards, which can damage your battery and increase the risk of a fire.
🔥Fire Prevention Week begins today! This year’s theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety. Safe Charging Is a Superpower”. ⚡️
Damaged batteries or unsafe charging habits can easily spark fires, stay tuned this week for some essential tips to stay safe.

🔥Don't feed a wildfire. Store combustibles at least 10 metres away from your house.
While firewood and propane tanks are obvious risks, patio furniture, toys, and paddle boards can also easily ignite during a wildfire.
🌳🔥Don't let your backyard become a fuel for fires.
✂️Trim your trees and remove low-hanging branches up to 2 metres from the ground to prevent ground fires from climbing trees.
🏕️Camping FireSmart Tips:
