The UK has dug up many of its orchards, & imports around 60% of its apples – often from far away. Planting apple trees in our gardens & communities (& protecting those we have) can cut food miles, boost biodiversity, soak up CO2, & improve food security. littlegreenspace.org.uk/feat…

More than 40% of insect species face extinction. Others are endangered or declining badly. We can help in our gardens and community spaces by not being too tidy, planting nectar-rich flowers and trees, and not using weedkillers and pesticides. More: littlegreenspace.org.uk/feat…

The water companies are failing and we need the Govt to take them into public ownership!
The ex-CEO of Southern Water has been charged with conspiracy to defraud, by manipulating water testing. Andy Burnham needs to clean up our water system and take all insolvent companies like Thames Water into public ownership now! @We_OwnIt @Feargal_Sharkey @WindrushWasp

Can we have a shout-out for the unsung heroes of the insect world? Hoverflies, beetles, moths and many other insects are important pollinators. To help them (and bees & butterflies), grow nectar-rich flowers and avoid pesticides.

There are 4000+ species of beetle in the UK. Many are useful allies in gardens & green spaces – pollinating crops, keeping harmful insects like aphids under control, & improving soil quality. Help beetles by avoiding pesticides & providing food & shelter. littlegreenspace.org.uk/feat…

Bumblebees can only fly for 40 minutes between feeds. So growing just one nectar-rich plant could be the pit-stop that saves a bee. Helping bees, butterflies, moths, and other pollinators is also a great way to connect with nature! More ideas: littlegreenspace.org.uk/feat…

A Ladybird's takeoff is way more dramatic than you think. In fact it is an incredibly complex engineering feat. It lifts its hard, spotted outer wings ~ known as the elytra ~ to reveal delicate, translucent hindwings hidden underneath, which unfurl to nearly four times the beetle's body size in a split second. 🎦 Credit: Interesting Things.

Being a tree advocate can take many forms, from working with a tree-based charity to simply taking note of the trees growing in your neighbourhood. Will you help us protect the trees that help us breathe better air, cool down in heatwaves, and collect our carbon? 🌳

Two minutes is all it took. Between me leaving the water for wildlife and the birds mobbing it. Just look at their delight!😍 Drinking and bathing - all that joy from just a turn of the tap from me. This week will be very hot and most natural sources of water have dried up. Please provide water for our wildlife. Day and night. You'll never find an easier, more satisfying way to save a life.
