In a massive 9-1 ruling, Brazil's Supreme Court has ruled that homophobic hate speech is now punishable by prison.
Now on the same legal level as racist hate speech, perpetrators of the crime will face two to five years in prison.
Justice Edson Fachin, the lead judge on the case, said in his ruling it was a "constitutional imperative" to give LGBTQ+ citizens equal protection under the law.
Congratulations on this legal win, Brazil! 🇧🇷

Sharing a moment with the executive director of Baroque on Beaver Island Music Festival, Matt Thomas.
He’s embraced my idea of turning a Baroque-only fest into an org that also commissions & premieres living composers.
We also share a passion for wacky patterned shirts.

I agree. It’s music written during a war not music about a war. RVW was too sophisticated an artist to ever imagine music is about anything more than itself (which is enough).
