I wonder what @tombennett71 makes of this: DfE intervening over, it seems, concerns that the Athena trust's exclusion and suspension numbers have been too high, asking it to share how it is working to reduce them, and warning about "weak" board oversight of these numbers.
New: Troubled Athena academy trust handed DfE Notice to Improve over its exclusion and suspension policies educationuncovered.co.uk/new…

Well this is awkward. We know the most vocal, rigid, control-advocating Trads love to use an RCT (or lack of) as "proof" of their position. 35 RCTs "across 18 countries... suggest that giving students greater agency, can improve both academic performance and wellbeing".
"... 35 randomised controlled trials across 18 countries... suggest that giving students greater agency, can improve both academic performance and wellbeing." Very interesting article. Thank you @BarbaraBleiman for signposting.

Looks really interesting research. Am also wondering, as a parent who has to use this app, if @tes researches impacts on families and staff at all.

Actually have to agree with @ktibus here that suspensions don’t work, especially for non violent incidents. They obviously have to be there as an option for schools but are sadly often overused as escalations for minor infractions such as missing detentions for late homework.

Safeguarding isn’t campaigning against discipline. It’s what ensures that “discipline” doesn’t become a justification for practices that harm children. History gives us rather good reasons not to leave institutions to police that boundary entirely by themselves. @JimGamble_INEQE

Very hypothetically (I don't know anyone like this) what if you're, let's say, a bloke who writes rude, dismissive tweets about people and when they reply, you block them? What kind of behaviour management is best in that situation?
The projection from Bennett is very real and goes back yrs! Same for the lies.

Apparently the engines have started, so let’s have a look at the “myths”. Spoiler: several only become myths after someone adds words like “all”, “naturally”, “must” or “by themselves”. Funny that. 🧵 Tom Bennett dixit: the annual ResearchED “Seven Myths of Behaviour” edition.

Internal exclusion may be pragmatic. It may be necessary. It may even prevent external exclusion. What it is not is inclusion. Calling it so is an exercise in educational doublespeak, where apparently the solution to an awkward reality is simply to redefine the words.

A school based on fear is not a school that will produce well rounded adults of the future.

Dear teaching profession. Parents don’t ‘form a cabal’. They become deeply concerned and communicate their worries. When a school refuses to listen they organise and present a united voice. A sort of democracy if you like.

Katie Allen-Gyves started teaching at a secondary school in Gorton last September. By December, she had died. The inquest concluded last week, and the verdict was a "tragic accidental death", but Katie's colleagues have told The Mill that the public hasn't heard the full story.

Replying to @oldandrewuk
@oldandrewuk when did education turn into the ‘wielding of power and influence’ and a battle between ‘good’🟢 and ‘bad’🔴 ? It’s a public service not an Avengers movie. Never has ‘follow the money’ seemed so pertinent - for those in education & those commentating on it.

Positive relationships with pupils lays the groundwork for learning. A nurturing environment where they feel safe, valued. & understood. When we lead with compassion & empathy, children thrive.
