I'm not sure most Canadians realize what's happening right now with Indigenous folks and the Carney government. Today, voice after voice from Indigenous leadership, youth, from across the country, has been telling us they're gearing up for a fight for their rights. This is big!

Prime Minister Goldman Sachs just revealed that Canada is negotiating an extradition treaty with the UAE dictatorship. In its 2025 report on the UAE, Amnesty International recounts an appalling abuse of an extradition treaty by the UAE. In January 2025, Lebanese authorities extradited Egyptian-Turkish poet Abdul Rahman Al-Qaradawi to the UAE, after arresting him in December 2024 at the Lebanon-Syria border. The UAE had issued an extradition request to the Lebanese authorities for charges of "disturbing public security", "spreading false information" and "inciting unrest" related to a video he posted on social media, criticizing the Egyptian, Emirati and Saudi regimes. On arrival in the UAE, Mr. Rahman Al-Qaradawi was forcibly disappeared and denied access to his lawyers and family members. On August 27, 2026, an Abu Dhabi Court sentenced him to 10 years in prison and a fine of equivalent to $55,000 for "undermining public security". Last month - shortly before Mark Carney announced that Canada is negotiating an extradition treaty with the UAE - the UAE regime announced that Mr. Rahman Al-Qaradawi had been granted a pardon. He was subsequently released and now resides in Turkey.

A lot of dumb lazy people think we will all get UBI when AI takes your job This is wishful thinking. Wealthy people will profit while getting free time, working class people will not This isn’t communism. The “savings” from AI will go to billionaires

NEW: On Friday, dockworkers at 111 ports in 22 countries and regions on five continents will stop work in a coordinated strike against war, according to the most recent information from the organizing unions. More than 25 dockworkers’ unions have now signed on, from Marseille to Mumbai, Hamburg to Montevideo, Melbourne to Oakland. Days ago the count stood at about 100 ports in 17 countries, and that figure doesn’t include the dozens of unions in other sectors that have pledged support. Their demand is simple: no weapons and no military cargo through their ports. Nearly everything the world ships passes through the docks, and without the workers who load and unload it, nothing moves. In France, the main dockers’ union says the country’s ports will be 95% shut. Italy, India, Greece and Turkey face 24-hour strikes, and Morocco and Cyprus will see stoppages of up to two hours, with rallies planned in port cities around the world. In Greece, metalworkers, ship-repair workers and young people are joining the dockers, and in the US, ILWU Local 10 is striking in Oakland and San Francisco. The unions are working from the Istanbul Declaration, signed in May, with each one deciding for itself how to take part. They are also fighting for their own jobs, against cuts from automation and for contracts, raises, shorter hours and safety. The unions point to escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and the danger of a generalized war. They condemn Israel’s new crimes in Hebron, carried out with the backing of the US, NATO and the EU. Israel’s lockdown of the city is now in its sixth day, with more than 3,000 Palestinians displaced, according to the UN. Palestinian unions have endorsed Friday’s action. In Italy, the fight has spilled beyond the docks. The union USB has called for a nationwide general strike. Last night, the Italian government ordered transport workers back on the job last night. USB said it would defy the order and accept the steep penalties. The unions are calling on workers and young people everywhere to stand with the dockworkers, saying “Ports for peace and the peoples, not launching pads for war.” I’m reporting from Calabria, Italy, and I will be in Genoa tomorrow ahead of the strike to report on the ground during the mobilzation.

Isaac Saney of the Canadian Network on Cuba and a professor at Dalhousie University of Black and African diaspora studies and history: “Many economists, many specialists in Cuba, point to the principal cause of the Cuban economic distress as being this unprecedented economic war waged against Cuba that has now become a genocidal siege. It's become an obsession of Donald Trump, but particularly Marco Rubio, to starve an entire people into submission by deeming, by denying them basic access to trade, to fuel and the basic necessities. One question I'd like to point out: What country could withstand this would stand what Cuba has done for the last nearly nine, ten months of this vicious, vicious economic warfare raids against it? What would happen to Canada if somebody were to cut off its access to international trade and so forth? It would lead to chaos. And so I think it's important to bear in mind that what Cuba is undertaking, as Julio has pointed out, with its 176 measures, has been long debated and discussed about improving the efficiencies of the economy. But as the United Nations report and many scholars have pointed out in the studies, the principal cause of Cuba's economic distress is this is this criminal, illegal and immoral economic war waged by Washington.”

Canada has opposed the U.S. embargo on Cuba for decades. But its recent abstention at the UN raises serious concerns about whether we're bowing to pressure from Trump. Canada must stand firm. Tell the government to vote to end the embargo. actionnetwork.org/letters/bc…

On October 28, the United Nations will vote to condemn the US embargo on Cuba. Every Canadian government since 1992 has supported the resolution. If Mark Carney is to make good on his call for a new global order, Canada must vote yes—and do much more. canadiandimension.com/articl…
