First, three important context:
1. Every single word and comma in the GST had to be agreed upon by delegations from 199 countries. A single country could block or object to any one word.

Public health win: Brussels' low-emission zones contributed to a nearly 30% drop in nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) on main roads since 2018, according to @BruxellesEnv.

#COP28 was a resounding success. For Al Jaber and the oil lobby.
They included vague "transition" text and launched a minuscule L&D fund as a fall-back plan, to get us all talking. Meanwhile, they got to business ensuring FFs are here to stay for decades by closing new deals.
Going into #COP28, Sultan Al Jaber said he was the one to bring industry to the table and get them to act. Record numbers of fossil fuel lobbyists did attend the conference, and they did act: helping to weaken the Global Stocktake text + striking 37 oil & gas deals while there.

The #COP28 outcome is simply not enough.
We need an equitable fossil fuel phase out, but the @UNFCCC time and time again demonstrates the inability to meet the urgency required to keep 1.5 alive.

Hey rich countries:
If you want developing countries to agree to a fossil fuel phase out why not cancel their debt so they don't need to export fossil fuels to pay you back?
I guess the actual good news from #COP28UAE is that over 120 countries agreed on the need for a fast, fair and funded phase-out of fossil fuels.
They could start working on a real Fossil Fuels Non Proliferation Treaty, now. How will KSA react to 90% of its market saying adieu?
