Our STEM program focuses on AgriTech and Lakes&Streams. #EarthDay2022 fits perfectly into what we teach students. This year K, 4, and 6 are working to add a tree lined path from our greenhouse to our trails and creek in the woods. We planted 22 trees and picked up tons of trash!
Some of our robotics team is learning about PCBs, electronics, and coding! They’re building their own handheld game console! Today they soldered their buttons in place. Next week is the LCD screen. Soon they will be using C++ to code their own arcade games. #STEM #WCSMission
Mr. Peattie and Mr. Shively took their classes out last week to help get our nature trails and outdoor classrooms ready for others to use! They painted trail markers, trimmed branches, removed fallen trees, and picked up trash! #STEM #WCSmission #outdoor warsawschools.org/o/claypool…
6th Graders spent the morning rafting and conducting water quality tests at Grassy Creek! We checked for phosphates, dissolved oxygen, temp, and learned about native plants. Thanks to Darci Zolman and her team from the Soil & Water Conservation District! #STEM #water #wcsmission
We are an #AgriTech #STEM School. 6th grade learned about @Tertill_Corp and challenged themselves to build and program robots to function like #Tertills. They needed to get rid of the weeds without killing the tomatoes. A great example of technology in agriculture!
Grade levels learned about seed anatomy, NPK ratios, and how hydroponic systems work. They used what they learned to sprout and grow flowers for #MothersDay. These flowers were grown in a Tower Garden and an AeroGarden. Here’s 2nd/3rd’s Marigolds and 5th’s Cosmos. #STEM #AG #WCS
Our 2nd graders were having a snack and found some partly germinated apple seeds. They decided to plant them and to see what would happen. They are growing great so far! They are excited!

4th graders are investigating what commonly used items are biodegradable and to what extent. They are burying and marking items and will dig them up in the spring to see what (if anything) has happened to them. What impact do commonly used items have on our environment?
1st Grade planted herb gardens today. They will then be investigating whether a plant MUST have soil to grow. They will compare the growth of herbs in their traditional garden with herbs grown in an aero garden that uses no soil. #Ag #STEM #SchoolGarden
It has been a long process, but EVERYONE at Claypool has worked so hard! We are officially STEM Certified from the IDOE! Claypool is one of only 12 schools to earn this distinction this year. Beyond that, Claypool earned a PERFECT score on our certification!
