"When we want to see blue, we look up at the sky. The Earth is blue to anyone looking down at it from the sky. Is blue in itself a color or merely a question of distance? Or a question of profound nostalgia? The unreachable is always blue." — Clarice Lispector, Too Much of Life.

Revolut CEO Nik Storonsky: “The US is not that competitive. Europe is even less competitive.” “China is competitive.” “China is 9/9/6. Even if you are good in Europe, or in the US, how can you out-compete the people who work 9:00 to 9:00, six days a week?” “I started in a co-working space with 140 companies. Within 5 years, only 3 companies survived. They all worked on the weekends.” “Within 10 years, only 2 companies survived out of 140.” “Working weekends is a must if you want to survive. Purely statistically.”

It’s weird that world governments are all simultaneously pushing for citizens to have 3 days-2 wks of food and supplies on hand, right?

This has gone viral in France. The wonderful black woman is a credit to France. The smug, haute-bourgeois blonde an embarrassment.
“Your shops that got looted were nice, okay, but we’re starving.” People looked this girl up and her dad is a corporate executive who worked for Shell. What a smug psychopath.

Caffeine cuts blood flow to the brain by 30%. Psychiatrist Daniel Amen says anything that lowers blood flow prematurely ages the organ. He founded Amen Clinics, which has performed over 200,000 brain SPECT scans. In his scans, low blood flow is linked to depression, ADHD, substance use problems and traumatic brain injury. He says it’s the top imaging predictor of Alzheimer’s. On SPECT, he says, caffeine constricts blood flow by 30%. The effect is large enough that he has patients avoid caffeine the morning of a scan. Otherwise it artificially lowers the reading. Blood flow is not his only reason. Caffeine blocks adenosine and disrupts sleep. It is addictive and causes withdrawal. It raises cortisol. His position: caffeine is best limited or avoided for optimal brain function. And the patients who quit tell him the same thing: “So many of my patients stop, and uniformly they tell me they feel better. They said their energy is better.” One of them was Jeff, a pilot with brain fog and memory problems. Jeff was having around 600 mg of caffeine per day (less than two Venti brewed coffees from Starbucks, at  ~330 mg each). His brain looked terrible. They cut his caffeine by 5% a day. In three weeks it was gone, with no withdrawal and no headaches. Then the texts from Jeff came in: “Unbelievable energy. Unbelievable clarity.” People treat caffeine addiction as one of life’s little miracles, with no cost. Amen’s scans tell a different story.

Acute caffeine reduces cerebral blood flow by ~27% in studies, but large prospective cohorts associate moderate caffeinated coffee/tea intake with lower dementia risk and caffeine is in a Phase 3 trial for Alzheimer's cognition. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC27… jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/… clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT04570…

A typical silverback gorilla weighs 195 kg and stands 1.5 meters tall. Silverbacks are incredibly strong and can lift over 800 kg of dead weight. That's roughly twice as much as a well trained weightlifter. Meet one face to face. [📹 Joel Oleson]

(YourTango)

When the open-source AI platform Hugging Face was hit by a cyberattack this July, it quickly became clear this was no ordinary breach because the hackers weren’t human: they were autonomous agents created by OpenAI researchers. Instadocs: AI Gone Wild reconstructs the breach as it’s never been seen before. Premieres October 12.
