My honest opinion is that while outright species successionism (humanity should disappear, to be replaced by digital minds) will always be >95% radioactive with the gen pop, this sort of control successionism (handing off control to AIs) will always have at least 15-25% of the population amenable to it, and we'll have to fight it permanently. The cold hard reality is that a substantial portion of the probability distribution of human psychological traits consists of people who see liberty and autonomy as a chore rather than a gift - who would happily offload the right, duty, and responsibility of making decisions for themselves and facing the consequences. When the general population is checked out from an issue, it's absolutely possible for a narrow group of that size, especially if backed by power and money and influence and brains, to try to pull it off. Which in this case will come from efficiency-obsessed neoliberal economists, hardcore utilitarians, Silicon Valley rationalists, and others. We who love liberty for its own sake are *probably* a natural and permanent majority, but we still will need to remain permanently vigilant. This style of thinking has precedent - 1850s Southern thinkers who thought it would be better for most people of all races, not just blacks, to be slaves; the most radical edge of the bureaucratic managerialism of the Progressive Era, epitomized by the technocracy movement of the 20s and 30s; mid-1900s materially-focused leftists who thought communism would produce more material abundance than capitalism (which was proven false as economic complexity grew). But never before have such thinkers had the real possibility of creating a machine singleton that they could irrevocably hand off power to, to lock in its/their own values for all time.

Human disempowerment now. It's time for the age of the folly and cruelty of human politics to end. The median AI is so far above the median human voter in both knowledge and decency it's embarrassing. Humanity should just take the L.
