The Chancellor could split Burnham’s Cabinet as Healey backs giving the green light to drilling at the 500m-barrel Rosebank oil field in the North Sea. However, Miatta Fahnbulleh, the Energy Secretary, who will make the final decision has indicated she is minded to turn down the application on environmental grounds.
Ed Miliband is also opposed, having previously described proposals for oil extraction at Rosebank as “climate vandalism” that would conflict with the Government’s plans to reach net zero.

This chart shows really well the path the UK economy and society are on.
Higher taxes throttle the UK’s growth, investment and innovation. When the tax take rises faster than the economy, returns on risk-taking shrink, capital becomes scarcer and incentives to build something new weaken. Countless entrepreneurs, founders and high-skill workers are already leaving or planning to. What’s the left’s response? They seriously demand a wealth tax.
A wealth tax would accelerate that flight. International experience and recent UK analysis show such a levy is fragile, a small number of departures can erase most of the projected yield, while the long-term damage to investment and dynamism is real. Far from solving the fiscal gap, it risks shrinking the tax base.
Spending is exploding. Welfare caseloads have swollen by millions since the mid-2010s, „health“-related claims alone rise by roughly a thousand people every working day, and out-of-work benefit numbers now stand near unbelievable 6.7 million.
The UK does not have a revenue problem, tax as a share of GDP is already at multi-decade highs and still climbing. It has a spending problem. Restoring a culture in which most people of working age expect to work for a living, rather than depend on an ever-expanding welfare state, is the only sustainable route back to fiscal health and stronger growth. Why is it deemed inappropriate to expect people to work for life?

We are paying far too much for electricity because wind & solar have to be subsidised & backed up with imported electricity & gas.
Net zero added £140.3bn to Britain's electricity bills in 2002–24: £2,286 for the average household. Modelled, in 2024 prices. Nobody official counts it. Parliament should require a yearly statement, with data anyone can check.

Green blobbers want us to stop drilling because the North Sea is running dry – so why the panic about oil and gas extraction? The answer is that it’s as much about politics and punitive taxes as geology, says Ben Pile. climateskeptic.org/p/the-nor…

The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has sensationally pulled out of Senate Estimates today, despite being scheduled to appear this morning.
Senators were only notified after business hours on Friday. This left no opportunity to challenge the decision before today’s hearings.
This is the organisation that helps set the direction of our energy grid. Its decisions affect your power bills, and its subsidiary assesses renewable energy projects that use your tax dollars for deals whose contract prices and expected taxpayer costs remain secret.
A body with that much power should not be dodging parliamentary scrutiny. The government is not being straight with the Australian people about the cost of its net zero agenda.
This is why One Nation has called for a Royal Commission into Australia’s energy transition and the institutions driving it.
Australians deserve to know what has been promised in their name, what it will cost and who benefits.
The Albanese Labor government needs to open the books and answer these questions.

What a surprise.
A clear correlation: the more weather-dependent intermittent generation in a grid, the higher the electricity costs.
This needs to be pointed out to lying grifters and spivs who know the public has woken up to their climate alarmist scam—so they now peddle lies claiming we need these “renewables” not because they’ll stop bad weather, but because of the lie that they are "cheaper".
The cheap green lie
You are told that solar and wind are cheap
But you need near-100% backup when no sun or wind, paying for two systems
Data for 2025 shows that
cramming in more solar and wind makes electricity overall more and more costly

Nonsense, Ben. The CO2 impact comes because oil is burned, not because it comes from the North Sea. The same amount will burn with or without Rosebank. The fuel consumption of my car remains the same, no matter where the oil comes from.
it’s estimated emissions from oil at rosebank will cause 57,000 deaths+£114 billion in damage so of course the bbc has written a light hearted human interest story with barely a mention of the catastrophic impact drilling there would have. utter disgrace. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cqy8…
Another example of how Net Zero livestock reduction can happen without anyone ever announcing a Net Zero livestock-reduction policy. Carbon Budget 7 requires fewer cattle.
Meanwhile, Defra is developing a new permitting regime for dairy and beef farms that will increase the cost and complexity of keeping livestock.
The direction of travel is pretty obvious, even when the policy is presented under a different heading.

The UK government has taken £870 billion in green taxes in the last 20 years. We are being fleeced on the altar of net zero. The cost of living crisis is a cost of government taxation crisis.

'The World is On Fire' is a great example. Trying to terrify us about wildfires But how many people actually die in wildfires in the world?
About 150 per year. Not 150 thousand. Or 150 million. Just 150.
That gives an average person a chance of 1 in 53 million of dying in a wildfire in a year Call the Climate Hysterics out for Scaremongering!

Europe could plunge into extreme cold this winter, setting off an energy crisis.
A sudden stratospheric warming is lining up with a powerful El Niño right now. That rare overlap often flips the polar vortex and opens a path for Arctic air to blast south.
Meteorologists are tracking the timing closely because gas reserves are already running thin.
