ALT Scotland’s Census 2022 is a historic milestone for the LGBTQ+ community. For the first time, Scottish LGBTQ+ people are seeing themselves represented in census data. The two new voluntary questions for people aged 16 and over asked about sexual orientation and trans status or history.
ALT The 2022 Census found: 183,860 lesbian, gay and bi people in Scotland: Roughly 4% of Scotland’s adult population! 19,990 trans people in Scotland: Almost half of them (45.2%) identify as non-binary
ALT Around 2 in 5 LGB+ people identified as bisexual (43.6%). A similar number of people identified as gay or lesbian (43.6%). Over half (57.1%) of people who ticked ‘other sexual orientation’ (23,500 people) described their sexual orientation as either pansexual, asexual, or queer
