Coach James Herman

Pete Carroll told Steve Kerr the offense and defense you run doesn't matter, and that your values are really the blueprint for building an NBA dynasty: “How are you going to coach your team?” “You mean what offense are we going to run? What defense?” “No, no, no. That stuff doesn’t matter.” “Coaching is really about values.” “When you think about the greatest teams, you remember the vibe, the aura that existed when you walked into the building every day.” “You need to think about what your team is going to feel.” “If your values come through in everything you do: the way you carry yourself and the way the team practices... then your values take hold and the culture takes hold.” “Go home and think about your life, your values and what they are.” Coach Kerr ended up choosing: 📊 Competitiveness 😀 Joy 🧘 Mindfulness 💙 Compassion These four traits became the foundation and north star for every system he built within the Golden State Warriors organization. “Pete taught me how to connect personal values to the way you operate.” “That’s how you really get a culture going.”
