Great hitters do the basics exceptionally well.
What are the basics you should focus on?
My top 5, thread 🧵
Little league send there by Tampa Bay. Two outs, slow runner. Windmill him home & pray the catcher gags & drops the ball.

While the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays are lauded for their analytic departments, lost is the fact they have two of the top 10 largest scouting staffs.
In fact, the Rays have the largest pro scouting staff in MLB
I love learning about the data & analytics side but I absolutely respect experience & feel for the game of an experienced coach/player who can read & influence the game like this

The Milwaukee, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland analytic departments.
These teams are teams that are definitely not obsessing over analytics.
We’ve spent years talking about the Dodgers payroll, but are we asking the WRONG question?
Milwaukee, Tampa Bay, Cleveland… year after year, these organizations find ways to compete without spending like the giants.
At what point do big-market teams stop obsessing over analytics and start POACHING the scouts from these organizations?
Maybe the biggest competitive advantage in baseball isn’t payroll. It’s knowing how to IDENTIFY TALENT that can compete when the lights are the brightest?..

The Brewers, Rays, Guardians, and Dodgers all have incredibly deep Baseball Operations/Analytics departments. When it comes to Analytics alone, The Guardians have the most staff in that department, followed by the Brewers and Rays. That's the top 3.

If Tampa Bay has a 50% larger R&D staff than your $12B organization, you haven’t gone “all-in”.
Just for starters.

Dodgers played Brewer ball better than the Brewers in game 1. Worked the count & fouled off close pitches to drive the pitch count. Hit the ball the other way for singles. 5 less k's. If not for a double play w/bases loaded in the 2nd inning it's a different narrative today.

"All the analytics nerds are looking for jobs with Meta."
No, dude, they're working for the Brewers
The Brewers play baseball the way it was intended. Contact plays. Computers off. Calculators in the drawer. Spreadsheets in the trash. All the analytics nerds are looking for jobs with Meta.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The Milwaukee Brewers maintain a large Baseball Research & Development department with vice presidents, directors, senior analysts, data engineers and systems staff who develop tools and data for organizational decisions.

MLB is proposing returning to a 154-game Regular Season and best-of-seven Division Series

ALT Schedule Changes Beginning in 2029, MLB proposes return to 154-game season and 7-game division series as part of salary cap and floor system. 154-Game Regular Season - Would return to 154-game schedule with a standard off day every week. Which Enables Best-Of-7 Division Series - Would expand the Division Series from best-of-five to best-of-seven, potentially adding up to 8 more Postseason games. More Prime Time Postseason Games - Would add additional off days in Postseason to reduce weekday daytime Postseason games, while giving pitchers extra rest.
3 game series suck.
The wild card round starts before any anticipation can be built & ends without drama. Even the Phillies/Braves going to game 3 feels rushed to conclusion.

@JoeyVotto breaks down why the league does not have more players like Luis Arraez and explains how baseball's evolution has led to that trend.
