As an AD, here’s a reminder for parents:
Competition is hard.
Winning is hard.
Losing is hard.
Being coached is hard.
Accountability is hard.
Competitive sports were never meant to be comfortable.
If you don’t want your child to face hard things, don’t sign them up for competitive athletics.
The struggle is the lesson.
The adversity is the teacher.
The hard is the point.

After Jalen Brunson said that "attitude" is the principle that Jay Wright set in him at Villanova, Mike Brown “Man, you can tell Coach Wright has instilled a lot of great qualities in all of these guys. They're selfless. They all have a competitive spirit. They're all about the right stuff, and they're great human beings to be around. So I'm sure it wasn't just Coach Wright who helped raise them, but to be able to play for him and have that continue at the highest level while competing for championships in college definitely made my job easier. When you have guys like that and those guys are the leaders of your team, we were talking about all of them, and then it rubs off on everybody else, and it just makes for a fantastic environment to be a part of.”

Unpopular opinion…
AAU doesn’t need to lead to college basketball to be worth it.
For a lot of players today, it’s simply part of becoming competitive enough to play varsity basketball.
Not every player is chasing a Division I scholarship. Some are chasing a varsity roster spot. Some want to make the rotation. Some want to help their high school team win. Some just love the game.
And that’s enough!
I think we’ve become too obsessed with using college basketball as the scoreboard for whether a player’s journey was worth it.
What if they never play another organized game after high school?
If they loved the practices… loved the tournaments… loved the road trips… loved the teammates… loved competing…
Wasn’t that valuable too?
Not every basketball journey has to end with a scholarship to be a success.
Sometimes success is simply getting better, building friendships, making memories, learning life lessons, and squeezing EVERY DROP out of a game you love.
If you’re playing on Court 1 or Court 37, play hard.
The love of the game doesn’t care what division you’re headed to.
❤️🏀

“Don’t focus on the pressure or the fear of losing. Instead, think about how incredible it feels to be in an intense battle playing the game you love. When you embrace the joy of competing, the pressure doesn’t paralyze you; it dials you in even more”

Some of the best ways to get better at basketball 🏀
•Play different forms of basketball (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, SSG, 5v5)
•Watch A TON of basketball - not just highlights (although that is good too) Watch full games and games of all levels (HS, College, NBA, WNBA, overseas)
