Coach the person. Develop the player. Baseball gives us an opportunity to teach far more than a game. Confidence. Accountability. Resilience. Being a great teammate. The wins matter. So does who our players become along the way.

What goes into building one of the country’s most successful high school baseball programs? Coach Todd Fitz-Gerald takes us inside the daily work at Stoneman Douglas—and there’s plenty every coach can learn from. We talk about: ✅ Building a culture that connects JV and varsity ✅ Making catch play and baserunning a priority ✅ Teaching players to think, prepare, and compete ✅ Developing pitchers beyond the radar gun ✅ Trusting your assistants and continuing to learn Plus, Coach Fitz shares his experience coaching his sons, Hunter and Devin, and how the Global Baseball Coaches Network is helping coaches share knowledge. One message kept coming through: **Process over results.** The details you teach and reinforce every day matter. Coaches and parents, give this one a listen—and share it with someone who loves teaching this game! 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts. 🌎 theCTBshow.net #ClearingTheBases #CoachFitz #BaseballCoaching #PlayerDevelopment #YouthBaseball #GBCN

The best coaches never make it about themselves. They don't act like they have found "the secret" or sell you on themselves. They always put the player first. They lead with humility but walk in confidence.

Always love getting to sit down & talk with @Coach_Jimmy_. Thankful to call him a friend and mentor in the game. Forever grateful for the people that baseball & coaching has brought into my life.
Are we giving our players the confidence to make decisions—or making them afraid to make mistakes? My friend Brendan Clary, Head Baseball Coach at Prosper High School in Texas, returns for a conversation packed with practical takeaways for coaches and parents. We get into: ✅ Coaching the person first ✅ Standards over feelings ✅ Talking less and observing more ✅ Teaching players to think for themselves ✅ Making catch play and baserunning priorities ✅ Keeping the joy in the game I always enjoy talking baseball with Brendan. His willingness to share what he’s learned—and how he continues to grow as a coach—makes this one well worth your time. 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts or visit thectbshow.net. #ClearingTheBases #BaseballCoaching #PlayerDevelopment #YouthBaseball #ProsperBaseball

Clint Hurdle recently shared a terrific lesson about what he calls the “White Belt Mentality.” His son came home from karate with a white belt and explained its meaning: “You know nothing. You have an opportunity to learn everything.” Think about that for a moment. It doesn't matter how many years you've coached, how many games you've won, or what level you've reached. The day you think you know everything about baseball is the day you stop becoming a better coach. There's always something to learn. From other coaches, from your players, from a book, or simply from someone who sees things differently. The best coaches ask questions. They listen. They challenge their own thinking. And they're never afraid to admit they don't have all the answers. Experience is valuable. But experience without curiosity can become complacency. Stay humble. Stay curious. Be a lifelong learner. The best coaches never stop being students of the game. Thanks to Clint for the reminder! #JustAThought #ClintHurdle #BaseballCoaching #LifelongLearning #CoachingDevelopment #WhiteBeltMentality

Yesterday the new coachbeede.com opened. If you have not walked through it yet, start with the question your family is carrying right now, whether it is eligibility, the money, the evaluation or the decision, and follow it from there. Every answer on the site is the same truth I give away here, organized so you do not have to scroll for it.

⚾️You may not know your hip internal rotation from your fascial tensioning—or whether hip flexion and abduction belong in a pitching conversation or on your next medical bill. 🤣 But stick with this episode. You’ll learn an awful lot about pitching movement patterns and how the body works together every time we throw a baseball. Two great baseball minds, longtime pitching coach Jim Rooney and my good friend Chuck Wolf give us plenty to think about beyond what the throwing arm is doing. Bring your curiosity. Jim and Chuck will handle the anatomy lesson! #Baseball #Pitching #PlayerDevelopment #CoachingEducation podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…

Avoiding conflict doesn't make it disappear; it usually makes it grow and involve more people. True resolution only comes from direct communication with the person you're in conflict with. #ConflictResolution #Communication

If your HS coach(es) put on organized workouts in the offseason and you are not playing another sport…. I encourage you to take advantage of this quality FREE training/practice. You don’t have to pay for training for it to be of value. If you take lessons, plan those for a time when you are not at your HS training. Then you get a double bonus. It should not be one or the other. Of course I’m talking about players who love the game and are hungry to get better. *** Footnote: not everyone is blessed to have quality coaches who give up their time in the off season to help other. But if you do, take advantage of it and thank them.

When life punches you in the mouth, the only question is: do you like the taste of blood? True fortitude isn't about avoiding the hit, it's about getting off the mat and swinging back, no matter the circumstances. #Resilience #Mindset

Conflict is unavoidable in sports. It can happen between coaches and players, coaches and parents, members of a staff, or throughout an entire organization. The real question isn’t whether conflict will happen—it’s how we respond when it does. My latest guest is Bill Taylor, championship-winning collegiate coach, founder of Sports Conflict Lab, and author of Managing Sports Conflict: Five Tools to Master Conflict. Bill and I discuss why conflict isn’t always negative, how emotions can prevent productive conversations, what may really be hiding beneath a disagreement, and how properly managed conflict can actually strengthen relationships, accountability, leadership, and team culture. Every coach, parent, administrator, and sports leader will take something valuable away from this conversation. 🎧 Listen now to the latest episode of Clearing The Bases! 🌎 theCTBshow.net #ClearingTheBases #ManagingSportsConflict #SportsConflictLab #BillTaylor #Coaching #YouthSports #BaseballCoaches #Leadership #TeamCulture #SportsParents #CoachDevelopment

My latest guest on Clearing The Bases is Kyle Douglas, Head Baseball Coach at Mt. Juliet High School in Tennessee. Coach Douglas shares an honest look at the challenges of changing a program’s culture, establishing meaningful standards and building relationships strong enough to create genuine accountability. We also discuss: ⚾ Why proactive communication solves so many problems ⚾ Allowing players to fail, explore and learn for themselves ⚾ The danger of overcoaching ⚾ Creating player ownership within a program ⚾ Why culture is built through daily actions—not slogans ⚾ Coaching today’s players with high expectations and genuine care ⚾ Finding ways to contribute when your original role is taken away Above everything else, Kyle wants his teams to be known for their resilience: “A Kyle Douglas baseball team will always get off the mat.” This is a thoughtful and honest baseball conversation that coaches, players and parents will appreciate. 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts. 📺 Watch on YouTube. 🌐 Visit theCTBshow.net #ClearingTheBases #BaseballPodcast #KyleDouglas #MtJulietBaseball #HighSchoolBaseball #BaseballCoach #CoachingCulture #PlayerDevelopment #Leadership #PuttingKidsFirst

My friend Kevin Coe has spent years helping young people grow through baseball. Through the Chicago White Sox ACE program, Pullman Ballers and the Cincinnati Reds, he has coached, mentored and opened doors for kids who deserve an opportunity. It’s hard to see someone who has given so much to others face this while fighting to regain his health. Kevin, you have a lot of people in your corner, my friend. gofund.me/815b0ab45
