Mark Maspero

This is a great example of how to get out of pressure by Cole Palmer using both your brain and your body. Here’s what he does: • Scans early - He looks around before the ball even arrives so he already knows his options. • Uses his arm to hold off the defender - He keeps the opponent at a safe distance and protects the ball. • Drops his shoulder and skill move - He fakes the defender one way, then goes the other. • Accelerates away - Once he creates the space, he explodes into it. Key takeaway: Just because it’s soccer doesn’t mean you can’t use your arms and body. Smart players use their body to protect the ball, create space, and unbalance defenders. This is legal and effective, as long as you’re not pushing or holding.
