No GPS? No problem.
Use sRPE to estimate internal load: RPE × session duration. It’s a simple way to audit High/Low days and adjust training based on how athletes actually respond.
Haddad et al., 2017.
Explosive power isn’t built by turning sets into a grind.
VBT shows lower velocity loss (5–15%) helps preserve bar speed, reduce fatigue, and keep athletes closer to the power zone. Research suggests 10% VL can outperform 20–30% VL for jump, sprint, & reactive strength outcomes.
Speed wins the play.
Work capacity wins the drive.
Aerobic work capacity is the “engine” that helps athletes recover between explosive bouts, restore phosphocreatine, and repeat high-output efforts across games and practices.
Don’t just build a faster car. Build the engine.
Don’t train only one end of sprinting.
Heavy sleds = force + projection
Medium sleds = acceleration bridge
Light sleds = rhythm + speed mechanics
The best sprint programs train the whole force–velocity curve.
Petrakos et al., 2016; Cahill et al., 2020.
Being strong helps. But sprint speed depends on how quickly you can apply that strength.
Research shows faster accelerators produce more horizontal propulsive impulse — they “push more” when it counts.
Strength + speed of application = usable sprint power.
Morin et al., 2015
Eccentric Nordics help train the posterior chain where sprinting demands it most: at long muscle lengths, under high force, while braking the lower leg.
Lengthened strength→better braking→greater tissue capacity→improved athlete availability.
Availability is performance!
Coaches: here’s a simple lookup chart to estimate 40yd dash performance without having to test as often.
Using:
• Broad jump
• Fly 10 - 30yd build
You can get a practical predicted 40 time and track changes in speed/power over time.
Useful tool to predict 40 performance!
