For 11 years, my entire family believed my grandmother had Alzheimerโs. She would forget peopleโs names, stare blankly during conversations and sometimes pretend she couldnโt understand what anyone was saying.
At first, we were worried about her. But eventually, everyone got comfortable talking freely around her.
They discussed family secrets, financial problems and things they would never dare say if they knew she was listening.
My uncle once openly discussed selling her house after her death. My aunt admitted she had been secretly withdrawing money from Grandmaโs bank account. Even my father confessed something about his past that nobody in the family was supposed to know.
Nobody bothered to lower their voices.
Why would they? As far as everyone was concerned, Grandma couldnโt remember anything.
But there was something nobody knew.
Grandma wasnโt nearly as confused as they thought.

But wait, are we missing anything?
Should we add emotional support, loyalty, affection, understanding, encouragement, and someone who genuinely stands by you through life's ups and downs? Or is there something else on the list?

Two days ago, I received a bank alert for โฆ350,000. The problem was that I wasn't expecting any money.
At first, I thought someone had finally paid back a debt I had forgotten about. But when I checked the sender's name, I didn't recognise it.
A few minutes later, my phone rang. A man sounded desperate.
He said he had mistakenly transferred the money to my account and begged me to send it back.
I asked him to provide the transaction details so I could verify everything.
They matched what I had received.
I told him I would contact my bank first. He became impatient and said he needed the money urgently.
After confirming the transaction with my bank, I went ahead and returned the money through the proper process.
I thought that was the end of it.
