Two minutes on the team, forty minutes on Messi.  Now imagine being in that room and you are the one the world calls Messi’s rival. The tactics board is not about you. No wonder Messi started being referred to as ‘MF.’ It must have been a mental ordeal.  Everyone in those Madrid locker rooms must have known deep down, everyone bar none. That’s irrespective of what they say or do afterward. This is why the debate was dead, Qatar or not.
