That's how large-bodied mammals declined through the late Cenozoic. Slow attrition of origination rates when extinction rates stayed the same. “The Entwives effect”. science.org/doi/epdf/10.1126…
The AI impact won't be felt immediately through layoffs (existing jobs are sticky), but through a collapse in hiring (jobs that don't yet exist have no stickiness).

Whaaat??? Flightless bird ("Yuezhuornis yangyuanensis... from southeastern China") in the Jurassic? Dude, you literally just learned to fly and you are immediately dropping this superpower. Reminds me the story of limb loss in early tetrapods. nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

Beautifully said 👌 this exactly what happenned in paleontology when only the fact of extinction of dinosaurs was known. There was infinity of speculations ranging from plausible to literally space aliens, until the hard evidence in combination with open-ended insight accumulated
String theory is what happens when an intelligent system is starved of sensory input and starts hallucinating. Intelligence needs grounding. For this reason, intelligence is practically never the bottleneck to solving impactful problems. The bottleneck is iterated contact with reality.

In our first spatialy-oriented-program study with my then student @LDaumantas we researched the human settlement rules in prehistory in Lithuania. The most severe change was approximately at 4.2 Ka in the transition between "stone ages" and "metal ages". sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
The 4.2 ka climatic event (= increased humidity and cold in Northern Europe) might have impacted on the early spread of Uralic languages via habitat changes, animal husbandry and trade sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

A new study by @AndriiRozhok @niles_eldredge and James DeGregori which presents a novel population genetic mechanism of evolution—the directional selection (of deviating forms) also selects, as a dynamic spandrel, higher mutation rate forms! @PalaeoPhilo doi.org/10.1093/jeb/voag105

Hierarchical reasoning varies across humans (adults vs children, English speakers vs Tsimane speakers) and species (monkeys, crows), rather than operating as an all-or-none capability sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Pessoal, acho que se vocês escreverem uma nota de repúdio, um texão no zap, ou chamar um tio aleatório de fascista, talvez vocês consigam fazer a esquerda ganhar. Parece ter funcionado bem essa estratégia. – at Cachoeira do Sul, Brasil
