i think what bothers people about this post (myself included) is that it betrays a solipsistic attitude. "why haven't *I* heard of him if he's so famous??" as opposed to a more open minded, generous "where should i start/how can i get into this person whose work I'm discovering?"
OK, I'll bite. If John Cassavetes is so insanely influential and brilliant, why have I not heard about him until recently?
I've been on a side-quest with classic and esoteric movies, mostly through the Criterion collection. I've watched dozens of Criterion closet picks from filmmakers and actors I admire.
They pick Cassavetes films ALL THE TIME. Probably more than any other director except Scorsese. I haven't seen a single Cassavetes film. I don't think I've ever heard anyone talk about a Cassavetes film outside of those videos.
I'm not a slouch on film, I've got a pretty wide spread on what I've seen & what I appreciate. How has Cassavetes slipped through that net so completely for so long?

And I love y’all - but a lot of y’all post stuff with no context of history. You probably started watching Venus within a year or so of this match. This ain’t prime Venus. Let me present to you, Prime Venus.

Love this. A fundraising campaign has launched to create a life-size statue of Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert at Prudential Plaza in Chicago. It will even have seats so you can be "At the Movies" with them! 👍🏻👍🏻

Cirie and Parvati were asked to name each other's best game
👸🏿 Cirie: “I had never seen anything like what she did in Heroes vs. Villains... I mean, she played so many idols, and not for herself, and still made it to the end with the target on her back... Obviously she won Micronesia. So any season that you win, people will say, ‘Oh, that was your best season because you won.’ But gameplay wise? Oh my God. She was a beast in Heroes vs. Villains in my humble opinion.”
👸🏽 Parvati: “I think Cirie’s best game is Traitors... That is where we saw Cirie do her best work of all time. That game is hard. It’s really hard to play, especially as a Traitor from the very beginning. And nobody suspected Cirie all the way through the game. She could control it. She had her little sunglasses on. She was like cool as a cat. And everybody gets voted out and they don’t know that she’s just mafia: BANG! BANG! BANG! They dead! I was really impressed with Cirie’s Traitors game.”
