#10 – Paradise's Surprise Season Ends with First State Championship
Every season has its biggest surprise.
In 2026, that team was Paradise.
When the season began, few outside Wise County expected the Panthers to become one of the state's best stories. Paradise entered the year with a new head coach, little statewide attention, and no preseason ranking. By the end of the season, the Panthers had rewritten school history.
Paradise captured the first baseball state championship in school history in the program's first-ever appearance at the UIL State Tournament, completing one of the most remarkable turnarounds of the 2026 season.
The signs of something special began to emerge long before the playoffs.
Competing in one of Class 3A's toughest districts, Paradise swept eventual 3A Division I state champion Boyd during district play and finished undefeated in district competition. While the Panthers continued to fly under the radar for much of the spring, those inside the program knew they had the pieces to make a deep postseason run.
Once the playoffs began, Paradise only gained momentum.
With each series victory, the Panthers transformed from a surprise contender into a legitimate championship threat. Their confidence continued to grow, and by the time they reached Dell Diamond, the once-unheralded Panthers looked completely at home on Texas' biggest stage.
The championship was the culmination of a season built on belief. Jake Ryan had 4 RBIs and Colton Walker pitched 6 innings of shutout baseball as Paradise waltzed to a 9-0 victory over Franklin in impressive fashion.
Head Coach Jeremy Fatheree established a winning culture almost immediately. Veteran players embraced new expectations, and a close-knit roster developed into one of the state's most resilient teams. Rather than being intimidated by higher-ranked opponents, Paradise consistently played with poise, confidence, and the determination of a team that believed it belonged.
When the final out was recorded, Paradise had accomplished something no baseball team in school history had ever done.
The Panthers weren't simply state champions.
They were proof that remarkable seasons can begin with little fanfare and end with unforgettable celebrations.
