There is a lot of data on how horrible it is for medical outcomes to keep inpatients boarded in the ED I don't see enough discussion of how inhumane it is. EDs are not designed to allow patients to sleep. No one would want a loved one to spend 24 hours in an ED We need better

A friend – a prominent Bay Area exec – recently spent a week @ZSFGCare (SF's safety-net & @UCSF site) for a bad injury. He enthused over the care...& was asked more than once if he'd experienced violence at home, had access to enough food & needed any support services. Inspiring!
