The @cityofcalgary is considering quitting Twitter/X. They should not be allowed to. The woke, activist staff at City Hall are perfectly happy to waste taxpayers' money posting to the left-wing echo chamber that is Blue Sky, where they have less than 5,000 followers. But they want to quit Twitter/X where they have more than 300,000 followers, simply because they can't handle free speech and people daring to disagree with them. City staff should be focused on serving Calgarians, not on spending our money fighting culture wars. #yyc #yyccc

The City currently has 10 people clearing snow off a single basketball court. (It was 11, but one just left.) #yyc #yyccc
I challenge my colleagues calling for more cuts to show your math. Explain what you would sacrifice — and to what end. I refuse to ask families to trade their safety and quality of life for a few dollars of short-term savings.

RT @peteremcc: Councillor Carra just said my claim that peer-reviewed studies show reusable bags are worse for the environment than plastic…

Ward 13 Coun. Dan McLean said he supports reinstating the fireworks. He said his email inbox has been “flooded” with emails from people not happy with the decision. “I think it was poorly thought out and not very well conveyed to Calgarians.” #yyccc livewirecalgary.com/2023/05/…

There is literally already a park and pathway, parallel to this road, in between the road and the river. The City has literally lost the plot, and if we let them, the anti-car zealots will completely destroy the economy. #yyc #yyccc
Love all the people enjoying Memorial Drive today. This road next to the river should be park. Wonder how busy it could be if it was advertised as open to people not vehicles. #yyc #yyccc

Mayor Gondek and I disagree on many things, but if she holds firm on this issue it will be a massive win for Calgary taxpayers. If a new arena is such an amazing deal, I'm happy for the Flames to pay for 100% of it, and receive 100% of the amazing benefit from it. #yyc #yyccc
1/6 Today, I spoke with Murray Edwards, primary shareholder of Calgary Sports & Entertainment Corp (CSEC), about the future of the Event Centre project. He informed me of the Flames intention to pull the plug on the Event Centre deal. Why? Here’s what I know:

Just because it doesn't say "$100,000" in the motion doesn't mean they're not spending it. a) mentions "resources" c) explicitly references "matching funds" If anything, this could end up costing way MORE than $100,000. #ableg #abpoli

A court case that will likely take a decade is "urgent". A pay increase for Council that Council has never considered and will be irrevocable if not stopped now is "non-urgent". Orwell that ends well.
Replying to @CommonSenseYYC
Cllr Wyness wants clarification as to what's urgent business and why McLean's proposal isn't urgent. She points out that the Bill 21 motion isn't really urgent as the court case is going to take a long time. Whereas the pay increase is automatic on Jan 1st. #yyc #yyccc

Probably because the businesses you were targeting were the ones who were looking for a taxpayer-funded government handout, rather than the ones who wanted a level playing field in a free market where they could compete on the merits of their products and services. #yyc #yyccc
Do we have any evidence to prove this? In all my years of economic development work, corporate tax rates were mentioned exactly once by CEO's looking to invest here. Unless the head office is here, the provincial rate is not that relevant.

Hearing that a special meeting of #yyccc will be called for 3:45 pm to deal with the third reading of repealing the mask bylaw. That should seal it, seeing how the vote was 10-4 earlier this afternoon.

A hyperloop project between Calgary and Edmonton could start testing as early as 2022. Whether it's "feasible" will depend more on who is paying the almost $30 billion cost though, rather than the technology itself. #ycc #yyccc #yeg #yegcc #ableg #abpoli cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/t…

Councillor accuses @CommonSenseYYC of misinformation because we don't cover all the work he's doing. I point out that actually, @CommonSenseYYC did cover it, but he probably missed it because he has @CommonSenseYYC blocked. Now I'm blocked too. 😂 #yyc #yyccc

Coun Evan Woolley says this arrangement was not disclosed to members of #yyccc when the arena deal was put before it in 2019. He questions what other hidden costs are in the arena deal.

While this parking lot arrangement is in the multi-party agreements signed by the City, Stampede and CSEC on the arena project, it is redacted in the public version of the documents. So it's private info. #yyccc

Definitely no misinformation in our presentation to #yyccc earlier today. The question by @JeromyYYC was appreciated as the taxpayer subsidy to protect existing neighbourhoods by limiting growth is substantial. Original source was PlanIT (not Planet) Calgary. Updated source below
Replying to @CommonSenseYYC
A speaker is asserting that there is 17 billion in savings to be had and the Guidebook is the key. Farkas is asking for a source of what is possible misinformation. The source seems to be Planet Calgary? Nenshi says they relate to the MDP which are city numbers. #yyc #yyccc

What Council did to Midfield may have been legal. But make no mistake, their decision was morally bankrupt. -j #yyccc
This is the video multiple Councillors are offended by. Contrary to what's been said, it's measured, & you should watch it. Many Calgarians think the City should have done more for Midfield. The lot sitting undeveloped 3 years after being bulldozed is salt in that wound. #yyccc
