Today’s signing of the Medical Aid in Dying Act is a historic step for compassion, dignity, and personal autonomy in New York.
Deeply grateful to Gov. Hochul, Senate Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Sen. Gustavo Rivera, Asm. Amy Paulin, advocates, and the patients and families who courageously shared their stories to make this possible.

I believe New Yorkers deserve the right to make their own end-of-life care decisions, and the Assembly’s passage of Medical Aid in Dying brings us one step closer. I will continue fighting for MAID in the Senate until it becomes law—in honor of Brian, Ayla, and countless others.

We are proud to advocate for the Medical Aid in Dying bill before the NY Senate. While we are fortunate to be healthy today, we believe everyone deserves the right to choose how they say goodbye when facing a terminal diagnosis. This compassionate legislation would allow those with 6 months or less to live the option to end their suffering peacefully - surrounded by loved ones and in a place filled with cherished memories.
We want the comfort of knowing that if that difficult day comes, we can be encircled by our family and friends, in the home where we've shared so much joy. Please support this vital legislation that respects personal choice and human dignity. #MedicalAidInDying @DeathwDignity @bradhoylman @AmyPaulin @ltmphd

"likely" Heastie said of putting Medical Aid in Dying on floor next week
Compassion & Choices retweeted
On behalf of terminally ill NYers who’ve pleaded w lawmakers to give them this option + the families of 28 of them who died doing so, I thank Speaker Heastie for working to make this compassionate end-of-life option available.
“It’s likely,” Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie tells reporters just now asked if he plans to bring medical aid in dying bill up for a vote next week.
