Andy, we know just the policy prescription: public ownership. 😉 Water run for the people who pay the bills. Democratic accountability. Money reinvested in fixing pipes and cleaning rivers. Happy to pop round with the notes. Some of us have kept them handy.

Last month, Andy Burnham made an announcement that could end up transforming British politics. Whichever party we vote for (and we're a politically diverse bunch!), we all agree: he deserves a nice cold pint for this. Cheers, Andy! Now let's make it happen.🍻

Andy Burnham closed out our conference 16 months ago with a speech outlining the wholesale reform Britain needs - electoral reform, the public ownership of water, a national housebuilding programme. We hoped he could give it on the party conference stage sooner rather than later. We backed him to do this. 18 months on, we are utterly vindicated in that decision. Here, the public gets what it has been crying out for. A Prime Minister no longer tinkering around the edges but committing to actual political, economic and social reform.

At our conference last year, Andy Burnham spoke to the need to renew working class ambition. Today he spoke of it as Prime Minister in his speech at Labour Conference. Alongside a National Commission on Electoral Reform and public ownership in the water industry.

NEW: My interview with Neal Lawson, director of Compass and co-founder of Labour group Mainstream He self deprecatingly calls himself “the most naive person in left-wing politics”. Ahead of Labour Conference, figures from across the party have come together to send this message. Labour now has a historic opportunity to restore hope and trust in our democracy, and change our politics for the better. We're calling on Andy Burnham to seize it.

Today Parliament debated the Representation of the People Bill. Together with our friends at @CompassOffice and @UnlockDemocracy, we brought 34 alarm clocks to Westminster to send politicians a message: it's time to wake up! ⏰ Our rotten voting system leaves millions without a voice. The country is ready for change: we need Proportional Representation now.

Thank you @labourlewis for coming to support our action in Westminster this morning! ⏰ Clive is one of the 180+ MPs who signed an amendment calling for a National Commission on Electoral Reform. First Past the Post isn't working. It's time for a system where all votes matter.

Good to see @RenewalJournal shaping the national debate - the journal has become even better since coming into the @CompassOffice fold 🎉
As argued for by Louise Haigh in Renewal back in May. Budget anticipators may want to read that piece and its attendant one on tax. renewal.org.uk/articles/a-ne…
