The largest quarterly jump in headline inflation (+2.3%) since the GST was introduced in the Sep 00 quarter. Not good.

In 1999 you had to earn over 4x the minimum wage to be considered a higher earner on the 40% rate. Today just 1.8x the minimum wage considered high earner! If the same minimum-wage-to-high-earner ratio was applied from 1999 you’d have to earn over £115k before hitting the 40% income tax rate. We’re seeing a level of wage compression that would make a Soviet era socialist blush.

Bullshit. Australians are not experiencing a cost of living crisis, Australians are experiencing a cost of government crisis.
New data from the ABS shows that inflation ticked up in September. While we already had an inflation challenge in our economy, the conflict in the Middle East is making it worse. We recognise people are under pressure and that’s why we are rolling out responsible cost of living relief like cutting income taxes again and boosting bulk billing. We are playing our part in the fight against inflation by finding savings.

At work (R&D at a fortune 500 company w/ 15k+ employees), every time a SaaS pitches their product, my first question in the review meeting is, "Why don't we just build this ourselves?" In the past, there were always good answers to that question. Today, I can't think of any. If we can point an agent at any website or demo, have it research the broader problem for 72 hours, build the product with a focus on our specific needs, with any extra features we want, AND save a million a year why would we pay for your SaaS? Scale? It only has to scale to 15,000 employees and a few million customers. We don't have the same scaling problem you do serving 1,000 businesses with 100s of million of customers. Scale is a non-issue. Reliability? Your 99.9% self-reported uptime is not impressive. We can pay to host an app on a hyperscaler too. And when we do it, we know with certainty whether the uptime number is true or not. Github's official status page reports ~99% uptime. The Missing GitHub Status Page reports 93%. Reliability is a non-issue. Bugs? You think your SaaS product doesn't have bugs to work out? I've seen bugs in third party products cost our company millions. Everyone is shipping early and often. Including your SaaS. Every piece of software has bugs. But there is a big difference between a bug in your code and a bug in ours. When the bug is in your code, we are at your mercy. Maybe you put it into Jira immediately. Are you going to bypass sprint planning? You won't have a fix for two weeks. Maybe you'll fail to reproduce and blame our code. Maybe it is our code. Maybe its an interplay. Since you don't have our code and we don't have your code, how are we going to figure that out? If it's all our code, an employee can fix it in an hour. If we need to, we can throw ten engineers with agents in a call until it's reproduced, the fix is merged, and it's validated. Bugs are a non-issue. Bandwidth? Agents are nearly autonomous now. They don't need to be babysat. I can spin up a project and let an agent run for 50 hours, have it build a PowerPoint and walk into a demo with leadership blind. If anything breaks, "I'm still working on that." Things always break in demos. Nobody cares. If leadership proposes a feature, the answer is, "Yeah, great idea, I can add that." Because I can. Bandwidth is a non-issue. Maintenance? We have so much prior art, inputs and outputs, we can benchmark anything. We have autonomous PR systems built on top of in-app feedback SDKs so even the non-dev users can contribute to every app or service. Even our analytics systems are tied to automated PRs. Maintenance is a non-issue. Support? It doesn't matter how much we're paying a month for your platinum level enterprise support when our point of contact has to fetch the one dev who already went home for every non-trivial incident. The incident is never trivial. We already checked the top 10 things it could be because that was faster than asking you. Support is a non-issue. Expertise? Agentic research. We can build anything. Expertise is a non-issue. Cost? The cost of intelligence has gone down 100x every year. You're still charging 2022 prices. You should be charging closer to your electricity costs. Cost is a non-issue. At this point, the only reason we don't switch off existing services is that transitioning 15,000 employees to something else is a pain in the butt. It would be a pain in the butt even with a perfect bug-free, infinitely scalable, perfectly-reliable clone. Your new SaaS doesn't have that moat. But it does give me an idea for a product to build.

Stagflation is here. It’s horrifically destructive. And it can only be solved with a radical reduction in the size of a bloated, wasteful, poorly managed Government.
Inflation update: the September and September quarter numbers a touch stronger than expected and much higher than the RBA’s last projections (August). Headline inflation above 4%. Core inflation above 3.5%. Pretty much locks in a 25bp hike next week. Probably doesn’t add to chances of a 40bp move or a third hike in December. There is some good news in the latest data but it is swamped by the bad news. The most positive element of the latest inflation numbers is the easing in housing related price pressures. New dwelling costs and rents coming off reflecting the slump in demand for housing this year (both dwelling sales and the small lift in rental vacancy rates). If this continues it bodes well for some easing of core inflation pressures in 2027. The bad news is signs of a lift in the inflation pulse in 2026. Domestic market services is accelerating while the share of CPI basket items rising by 3% or more has risen to 2 year high of 70%. The economy is slowing, housing markets are soft and the unemployment rate is rising. But the RBA has no wiggle room. Inflation expectations are slipping above their target and cost pressures are showing few signs of easing. Their best bet of getting ahead of inflation would be to hike to 5% next week with a 40bp hike. They won’t despite their concerns voiced in a number of public forums over the past few months. Unfortunately, we are going to have to live with inflation for a bit longer. And further rate hikes in 2027 cannot be ruled out.

🇬🇷 #HarryTheoharis

It’s sad to think features like these have survived centuries, thousands of years of human history. Hooded eyes, aquiline noses, strong eyebrows, round cheeks, thinner lips, tall, larger built, square jaws, the very faces our mothers, our grandmothers carried, all of it stretching back to queens and peasants alike. Features that have survived it all, seen it all, and all for you to be told now — well it’s just not attractive. Imagine inheriting a face shaped by the entirety of human history, imagine being blessed with a beauty that has survived the many rises and falls of humanity, only to be told you now have to give it all up to the vanities of this generation. What worth is beauty without any history? What worth is beauty without meaning? What worth is beauty when it stops being something we recognize and instead becomes just something we manufacture?

I will never understand why people thought it was a good idea to make a society where parents were so time poor, tired and burnt out from working, that this was the result. (that is the context of the clip) Its insane, its always been insane, yet here we are.

It’s kinda crazy to me that we melt sand down, clean it to 99.99999% purity, literal wizards have to draw it slowly into an ingot, we cut it, inscribe a hundred billion little on/off switches on it, and when you run electric current through it you can do basic arithmetic, which when you do enough of it can do any math on the planet, and which describes reality well enough that we can teach it the ontological meaning of words and their distance from each other on a high-dimensional space, and if you ask, it can tell you what word comes next and that apparently is powerful enough that if you do it a hundred billion times it’s the smartest thing to ever exist oh yeah and we use this primarily for email

There are seven main steps for your company to go from tool adoption to agentic org. Most companies sit on step one, shopping for step seven technology. They need step four discipline. Step one: tool adoption. AI tools exist across the org, humans run each one. Developer closes the lid, automations die. Somebody goes on vacation, the workflow goes with them. Step two: context layer. Knowledge graphs per department, each behind its own API gateway. Sales queries engineering through an API. Separated domains keep agents from hallucinating across departmental boundaries. Step three: harness engineering. Build evaluation criteria, routing logic, and quality gates before you pick a model. The LLM comes in last. Your harness is your IP and your capex. The model underneath is a commodity you swap when something better ships. If changing the LLM breaks your system, you built a dependency, not a platform. Step four: go headless. Host every automation outside a laptop. It fires on schedule, on conditions, without a human logging in at 9 AM. Companies stall here because nobody forces the migration from “script on my desktop” to “service that runs on its own.” Step five: governance. RBAC on every knowledge structure from day one. TTL on every agent. Dead agents are tech debt with active API keys. Past 100 tools, you need lifecycle management. Retire anything that hasn’t run in 90 days. Deprecate anything whose eval scores drop below threshold. Step six: agent-to-agent. Stitch headless instances together within a value chain. Agent A finishes, hands off to Agent B. An LLM sits between them as a quality gate, judging every handoff before it passes through. Step seven: step functions. Orchestrated, semi or fully automated workflows. Agents handle volume. Humans handle exceptions. The org runs on agent output. We walked a VP of Engineering through all seven. Told him: “You’re on step one. But over a hundred tools means step four is closer than you think.”
