Owners burned before try to approve everything. The issue usually isn't process - it's trust.
Predictable updates + quick responses → micromanagement fades, decisions speed up.

Happy birthday @ConnectwPablo How to put into words just how magical it is to know you… so I thought why not just give photographic evidence to support 😆
From Vegas penthouse suites, to watching the greatest awakening of self confidence and expression (aka watching you do kareoke), your presence is one I enjoy with all my heart.
Thank you for being a force for good in my life. Your strategic mind in marketing is unparalleled. Your ability to connect with vulnerability and authenticity is infectious. The way you articulate your human experience always has me enjoy your company.
Watching you evolve and progress over the last few years has been such a gift, I’m grateful to have been a spectator in your adventure.
Happy birthday my friend. May your day be filled with joy and wonder, like the gift you give this world.
Death.

“The stranger your tastes seem to other people, the stronger evidence they probably are what you should do.”
I.E.- what feels like fun to you, but work for others is where you will find your life’s work.
For me, it’s been finding the value in others.

True Story. The category design academy has forever leveled up my life and business.
Replying to @ConnectwPablo
@ConnectwPablo was the FIRST person to join the Category Design Academy in October 2023.
And because he's too humble to share the news himself...
...we'll say it for him.
"This will be the year that I make the most money I have ever made in my life."
We couldn't be happier for you, Pablo. You're doing legendary work.

Steve Jobs: Enable small groups of smart people and good things will happen.
“Steve understood and appreciated the creative process—which, in certain ways, is the relative absence of process.
His experience with Apple, Pixar, and Disney gave him a perspective many CEOS will never have.
He got how ideas needed to be nurtured and protected.
He knew that machine like analysis would not magically yield creative brilliance.
He knew that if he enabled small groups of smart people, good things would happen—even if those results weren't entirely predictable.”

America 2.0:
- brainwash kids for 8 hours a day until they’re 18
- tell them they have to go to college and go $100,000+ in debt or they’ll never succeed
- make student loan debt unforgiveable, more expensive yearly, and yet give their parents' tax dollars to those same schools
- make illegal unpaid internships where you actually learn to do rather than to theorize
- pressure top performers to go into 2 most uncreative jobs, consulting & Wall St
- or idolize startups that will require sleeping on floors and racking up massive debt from VCs so 1 out of 10 of them can be on the cover of Fortune
- get mad at them for not working “hard enough” and quiet quitting when they can’t afford houses, hate their jobs, and their loans keep stacking
- if that doesn’t keep their heads down, then send them to war in a foreign land
I wonder why so many young people don’t trust the system.

When I first started building internet businesses, nothing worked.
It was miserable.
I’d have this “brilliant” startup idea. Pour all my energy into it. And it just didn’t hit.
I changed a few things and my luck 10x-ed with it.
Honestly, I'd be working BestBuy right now without these tweaks...
1) Audience-first approach
Before any product, I build an audience.
If I can’t build the audience, I don’t build the product.
The audience don't just validate the idea, they shape it
2) A sticky name
Lots of people say names don’t matter.
“Just build something people love”.
Not true. A quality name is an idea virus.
It’s gum on your shoe or that song you can't get out of your head
If we would have called @boringmarketer something like AISEO3000 it would be printing 7 dollars not 7 figures.
How do you build a category of one?
3) Think in funnels
I guess I just expected people to come back to my products. I was naive.
But you have to remind them. And not be shy to ask for their emails or SMS.
In return, give them something they really want.
That’s my next point.
4) 90% of your products should be free, 10% paid
Give away stuff to make an impression.
Digital assets, free communities, challenges to stimulate your community etc.
Your Shopify shouldn’t be only paid products.
Free products that build mega trust with hearts and minds.
And If you win the heart, the cart follows.
5) Using spy software
EtsyHunt, Subredditstats, Google Trends are your best friends
The data is out there.
The tools are out there that give you a microscope into what’s happening with a community.
And what sorta startup ideas are working (and not working).
All you have to do is listen, take notes and take action.
Bonus: #6 what's noise or what's signal
Conferences, being in TechCrunch and being on Forbes Lists are examples of things that massively overvalued.
Making it a habit to ask yourself is what you're doing noise or signal, is probably one of the greatest productivity unlocks for entrepreneurs.
I wish I knew this stuff earlier. My luck changed as I took these 6 prompts more seriously.
I'm sharing because maybe this might be helpful to you on your journey.
Because let's be real... building your own business empire ain't as easy as people make it seem.
Entrepreneurship is ruthlessly hard.
We can use all the luck we can get.

Learning from others is a real superpower.
But it has one big problem:
It lends itself to over/under correction.
That’s why you end up needing to learn the last 1% through experience…
and 1% is what separates us genetically from apes.

Formula for legendary keynotes
Replying to @ConnectwPablo
1) Start strong
(no intro, life story, or warm up)
2) Be radically yourself
(most people act on stage)
3) Tell legendary stories
(never make a high level point, without telling a story to give people an example)
4) Bring data
(no one like an arm waving donkey)
5) Powerful for mix of non-obvious & obvious content
(you want people to make these two noises: "Huh?" & "ahh!")
6) End strong
7) Leave them wanting more
(get in, get out & don't linger like a fart in an elevator)

Two men set out to build a building.
One lays the foundation for a 10-story building and finishes the entire building in nine months.
The other lays the foundation for a 100-story building and it takes him the entire nine months just to build the first few floors.
The first “being ahead” mocks the second for taking so long. He decides he wants to build his building into a 100-story building to prove how good of a builder he is.
So he tries to add stories on top. He gets to 15-16 stories and then the foundation begins to crack. He starts reinforcing things. But no matter what, he feels he can’t put anymore on top.
Over time, the second guy keeps building and passes the first man.
Two years later the second man completes his 100-story building despite barely having his foundation finished by the time the first man finishes his entire building.
The first man, goes to a mentor to ask his advice on growing his building taller.
The mentor tells him “you need to tear down this building or start another one new”
He says “and waste all the time I spent building this one? Can’t I just add it on top if I just knew how?”
The mentor replies “there’s a lesson here: The fastest way to build a 10-story building isn’t the fastest way to a 100-story building. Your desire to grow fast ruined your ability to grow big.”

A lot of entrepreneurs build businesses as though it’s a race.
And sometimes they reach their goals.
Then they see someone with bigger goals and a bigger business.
They then try to build their business into that business.
But they can’t.
Because the fastest route to a $10M business is often not the fastest route to a $100M business.
Sometimes big things take time. And often that’s what makes them worth pursuing.
Don’t compare a sky scraper to a townhouse six months into building.
At what point do star players on underperforming rosters all start deciding to come to @MiamiHEAT to get the most out of their peak years like @KingJames did?
