It’s kinda crazy to me that we melt sand down, clean it to 99.99999% purity, literal wizards have to draw it slowly into an ingot, we cut it, inscribe a hundred billion little on/off switches on it, and when you run electric current through it you can do basic arithmetic, which when you do enough of it can do any math on the planet, and which describes reality well enough that we can teach it the ontological meaning of words and their distance from each other on a high-dimensional space, and if you ask, it can tell you what word comes next and that apparently is powerful enough that if you do it a hundred billion times it’s the smartest thing to ever exist
oh yeah and we use this primarily for email

Socialists hate Miami because it’s full of people who escaped the oppressive, failed system they keep promoting.

Lots of VCs kindof sound like this: "Your basketball team doesn't have a moat, any healthy human can throw the ball into the basket thingy. "
People who have not run companies before don't understand how much the team matters more than some imagined structural moat.

Kvaratskhelia, Dembele and Marquinhos all limping off tonight. Imagine if they were required to play football on weekends. The physical demands on a premier league footballer are worlds apart

Next time you think you need to hire more people, consider this:
The Skunk Works was ~50 engineers and ~100 machinists.
They built the first supersonic fighter, the Blackbird, and the first stealth aircraft. The stealth prototypes flew 20 months after the contract was awarded.

Frosinone in 6th, Cagliari in 7th, Lecce in 12th, Monza winning tonight.
There have been some decent starts from sides expected to be in the bottom three.
We could see a really interesting relegation battle come the back end of the season.

The amazing thing about this quote is that it was written in the 60s (Dune was first published in 1965).

No matter how badly you want to avoid it, it's almost impossible to be incredibly successful without looking like an idiot for some period of time.

The only way to not have enemies in life is to make yourself insignificant and small.
Anyone looking to achieve greatness will necessarily accumulate foes on the journey.

I get blown away every time I read this paragraph by Carl Jung, written in 1944:
“People will do anything, no matter how absurd, to avoid facing their own souls. They will practice Indian yoga and all its exercises, observe a strict regimen or diet, learn theosophy by heart, or mechanically repeat mystic texts from the literature of the whole world—all because they cannot get on with themselves and have not the slightest faith that anything useful could ever come out of their own souls.”

One of the best things about startups is that you can compete with companies 100x your size and actually win.
Three years ago today, an attempted genocide on the Jewish people took place. Rather than the world uniting with the Jews against a common enemy of humanity (Islamic terrorists), the West decided that Hamas (Gaza) was deserving of our full empathy and the Jews were the ones committing a "genocide." The inversion of reality is beyond what Orwell or Kafka could have imagined. The explosion of global Jew-hatred post October 7 highlights a very ugly reality: Scratch the surface and you quickly sink into the infinity pool of arguably the oldest hatred known to mankind.

The most important message I can give to young folks just entering the workforce:
NOBODY WANTS TO HIRE YOU.
You don't have any or many real skills yet.
You will require significant investment (both time and money) before you can add serious value to a company.
You can't lead other people and you are a poor delegator.
College has done virtually nothing to turn you into an asset to a company.
So what now?
Realize one thing:
Your job is to make a company more profit than they pay you.
It is up to you to build skills that can create profit for a company.
Easy ones:
- Learn how to write/speak and be a short and succinct communicator.
- Learn to respond quickly and develop a positive, high energy attitude.
- Learn how to prioritize tasks and only work on the most valuable initiatives first
- Learn how to be organized and keep projects moving in a timely manner
- Be eager to learn and demand more work when you're finished with what you're working on.
Harder ones:
- Learn a higher level skill (marketing, sales, engineering, finance, accounting, web design, etc)
- Learn how to manage / lead other people.
-Practice making decisions where the outcome is unknown and getting better at it.
- Learn how to explain WHY what you are doing is adding value.
Take it upon yourself to learn these things or just get in line for mediocrity.
