Been buzzing about helping pollinators in Coton and neighboring communities for a while now but only joined @Twitter today in order to help @CotonBusway #SaveOurGreenCorridors and protect #Biodiversity.
The next generation of Large Whites has given me the perfect excuse not to clear the veggie patch today.
A time to gather, a time to grow. 🎶 Pear picking, pruning and planting at Coton Orchard. Huge thanks to Leo from Blue Barrel Cider and @TreesAreGoodCIC for helping us care for the old trees and plant the next generation. 🍎🌳🦊🍐🐝
Team from @ASTRAZENECAUK getting stuck in creating wildflower meadows, butterfly habitats & picking pears 🍐🐝
Picking fruit all week; village produce stall this morning. With CSF this afternoon and another food bank tomorrow. The last harvest from these trees that have fed our County for a century. All to be felled for a busway to Grange Rd. Criminal.
Helping prepare for Coton’s annual mid autumn harvest moon-festival lantern, moth and bat walk. Always fun but I forget how much work it is! Only 90 more lights and lanterns to assemble and hundred cakes to bake..🏮🦇🥮🌝
Wonderful community day, we even had some unexpected visitors from north and east Cambridge who wanted to show support after the @BonkersBusway decision.
It’s a tough week in Coton after the busway decision. We’re out picking for the produce stall, still delighting in the little discoveries, but the joy is marred by the thought that this could be our last season 🍎🍐🍅🍈🐝

As an alumna, I am appalled. Many who fought this scheme are Cambridge alumni or staff. To see our University applaud the destruction of irreplaceable habitat to service its own growth, call it “sustainable”, then turn off replies is both a profound betrayal and cowardly.
The UK Government has given the green light for a new busway and path linking Cambourne and Cambridge 🚲🚶🚌
The approval from @transportgovuk @Heidi_Labour is a major milestone that will transform connections across our region, linking new homes, jobs and communities to opportunities in Cambridge.
By making travel faster, more reliable and more sustainable for staff and students, the scheme will provide a significant boost to the region's innovation ecosystem and future growth ambitions.

Profoundly disappointed at the lack of courage, the lack of sense and the disregard for the natural world shown by this decision.
The C2C TWAO has been granted, with powers to compulsorily purchase land and fell hundreds of mature trees across Madingley Hill and Coton Orchard. They accept the harm is likely permanent, but approved it anyway. gov.uk/government/publicatio…
Two remarkable finds in last night’s moth trap at Coton Orchard: our first recorded Clifden nonpareil, or blue underwing (Catocala fraxini), and a Rosy knot-horn (Oncocera semirubella). @bc_cambs_essex @savebutterflies
Found after moth group left, what is this please @FlyinginFordham?
I’ve removed my Coton Fête video after learning that one family wasn’t comfortable with their children appearing in it. My apologies for any upset caused. If anyone downloaded or saved a copy before I removed it, I’d be grateful if you could delete that too 🙏🏻🐝
What a day! Sunshine, downpours, wind and rainbows. We sold every last flower and bit of produce, with this year’s proceeds going to Coton School’s kitchen fund. Huge thanks to the organisers and everyone who came and supported us. Now for a cuppa! 🍐🍎🌻☕🐝

Look from above and see what’s still green, sheltered by mature trees. Look at the harvest and see what it still produces. Resilience isn’t stockpiling bottled water and tins. It’s protecting land that holds water and grows food, not concreting it for a bonkers busway. @thetimes
