Went 2-0 this weekend vs Navarro & blinn, a good weekend for me and my team as we got better & competed. Still a lot more to work on….⏰

Cowley County Community College head basketball coach Donnie Jackson believes the foundation of a successful program starts with competing at a high level, playing unselfishly and understanding what it means to be a team.
For Jackson, it’s about establishing a reputation that opponents recognize before they even step on the floor. He wants the Tigers to be known for their relentless effort, willingness to play for one another and commitment to doing things the right way.
“I want people to say, man, they’re an unselfish team. They play like a real team.”
That mentality carries over to both ends of the court. Jackson emphasizes that when players buy into a collective approach, defend with purpose and compete on every possession, they give themselves an opportunity to be successful against anyone.

6’6” sophomore forward Xavier Vickerstaff @XaVickerstaff put his versatile offensive skill set on full display at the @Uprise_Hoops Oklahoma Jamboree. A physical driver who consistently plays through contact at the rim, he pairs high-level toughness with a reliable jumper from deep. Expect him to step into a significantly expanded role for Cowley College (KS) @CowleyHoops in the upcoming season.

🏀 PLAYER TO WATCH — ANDRELL BURTON JR.
Cowley College | #23 | 6’7” |
Former NCAA Division I — South Dakota State
A 6’7” wing with good positional size, length and a quick first step. Uses his explosiveness off the bounce to create separation, attack gaps in the defense and get downhill. Aggressive attacking the basket, using his length to extend around defenders and finish at the rim.
A former Kansas Class 6A First Team All-State selection, Burton Jr. originally signed with Drake University before spending last season at South Dakota State.
Brings Division I experience, intriguing physical tools and the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. His combination of size, length and ability to attack off the dribble makes him an interesting prospect to follow.
Positional Size • Length • Quick First Step • Downhill Attacker • Rim Finisher

📈 STOCK RISER — LJ BRITT
Cowley College | #1 | 6’3” | Sophomore | Guard
Skilled 6’3” guard with a strong offensive feel and the ability to create advantages off the bounce. Comfortable operating on the perimeter, knocking down outside shots and attacking closeouts to get into the paint.
Displays good change of pace and an understanding of how to manipulate defensive help. Gets two feet in the paint, draws multiple defenders and makes the right read, locating open teammates when the defense collapses. Shows the ability to balance scoring opportunities with playmaking responsibilities.
Appeared in all 33 games as a freshman and enters his sophomore campaign with valuable JUCO experience. His combination of perimeter shot-making, paint touches and passing instincts gives him the versatility to impact the offense both on and off the ball.
Scout’s Take: An intriguing offensive guard who can stretch the floor, create paint touches and generate quality looks for teammates. His ability to make decisions after breaking down the initial defender is a notable part of his offensive profile.

Cowley County Community College head coach Donnie Jackson has a clear vision for the Tigers heading into the new season: play fast, defend and compete for all 40 minutes.
With a long, athletic roster and experienced returners who have already bought into the program’s expectations, Jackson wants Cowley pushing the tempo without sacrificing discipline or structure.
“We really like to have pace and play fast, but within structure and discipline.”
For Jackson, developing depth will be a major priority as the Tigers look to sustain their intensity throughout games. The goal is to build a group that can consistently defend, compete and execute the style of basketball Cowley wants to play.
“I think our identity is going to be somebody that defends and competes the entire game.”
