I just launched the Ministry of Mobility Design. The platform is a non-partisan policy lab for employment-based immigration system design that publishes white papers, research, and commentary to advance better legal migration frameworks substack.com/home/post/p-208…

Somewhere, the hardcore manga fan in the Japanese Self-Defense Forces who proposed this idea is clapping their hands together, saying the following
Japan just released the unclassified version of their annual defense strategy anyways here's the actual cover page of it

A lot of people are looking at these numbers without the broader policy and migration context. Border arrivals, which began dropping in May 2024, have now reached historic lows due to a range of executive actions. And despite these gains, 47 still has lost ground on these issues
Matthew Yglesias continues to say that talking about ICE and excessive force in immigration enforcement helps Republicans. He is obviously wrong about this and refuses to acknowledge the data. Way past time for everyone to update their priors on this.

Simply put, the issues around interior enforcement have wiped or nearly wiped any advantage the incumbent party would have over these gains. That doesn’t mean voters embrace D positions on these issues, which requires policy positions aligned with their views on a multi-part one

But it’s fair game to take advantage of a huge opening where an administration broke with voter expectations on interior enforcement and state where they’ll right the ship on providing a balanced approach, something that requires deeper policy thinking americanimmigrationcouncil.o…

This is pretty much every election in the United States since at least 1800
Esta campaña electoral nos está mostrando que los eslóganes son mercancía para vender, no para consumir.

“Wait and see” is right. Dems have admitted Biden’s immigration approach failed. But voters haven’t heard what comes next. The 2028 primaries will force candidates to answer on a national stage—and reshape the party. Our polling is the first step in helping Dems get it right.
A 2028 wrinkle is the number of voters who’ll be in wait and see” mode for Dems on this issue. This will require promoting ideas that secure public support, implementing them, and managing their outcomes. But it’ll also need an honest stroke of luck for this opening to appear

Replying to @SarahPierceEsq
First, the "Biden hangover" 58% of battleground voters disapprove of Trump's immigration enforcement. But Republicans STILL lead Democrats by 13 points on immigration and a whopping 30 points on border security. Rejecting Trump's approach ≠ trusting Democrats to do better.

It's been a good year for las Selecciónes to get two stars. Let's keep it going next year in Brazil, @SEFutbolFem!

Suddenly, a lot of senators who spent the past two years blocking even modest ICE reforms, approving tariffs, refusing to stop the war, and catering to every Trump whim are now hoping to tweet their way out of it six weeks before the election. Good luck with that.
When ICE operates in Kansas, it needs to coordinate with our local law enforcement. Our sheriffs and police know these communities better than anyone, and working together keeps officers and residents safe. I’m closely following what’s happening in SW Kansas and have been in direct contact with Secretary Mullin and local law enforcement as ICE executes warrants in order to keep Kansans safe.

So that's a no. The "most transparent administration in history" once again refuses to release data on immigration enforcement that was previously published on a regular basis until Trump took office.
BASH: Part of the issue is DHS isn't releasing numbers. Will you help to clear up what you're saying by releasing figures of your arrests? MARKWAYNE MULLIN: Every time we try to give numbers out you guys want to go in there and pick it apart and make it political when you should be saying 'at least we're getting these criminals off our streets'

This is infuriating. This admin has spent years arguing that exploiting foreign workers hurts American wages & working conditions. Now it is making it harder for foreign workers to leave bad employers thus INCREASING exploitation. A thread of the admin’s own words + sources:

No one should take this article seriously when it fails to examine how Schengen/freedom of movement/EU policy issues would make this idea radioactive on both sides of Atlantic, especially for a Canada that'll resist handing control of parts of its immigration system to the EU
Ever since Donald Trump’s combustive, combative second term began, a fringe idea has entered the mainstream: forget being the 51st U.S. state, what if Canada became the 28th member of the European Union? A poll conducted in March found that almost half of Canadians surveyed would support joining the E.U., with only 28 per cent against it. In Europe, various prominent officials are also keen. Read more about why even the notion of Canada joining the E.U. is significant: newyorker.com/news/global-no…

From the U.S. perspective, the experience of growing migration crises at the U.S.-Mexico border between 2014 and 2024 show they were intractable because they didn't approach them as natural disaster scenarios that required national/state and regional coordination to control them

It's true three administrations' shifting asylum policies drove these crises, a reason Dems lost in 2024. But the failure to have FEMA-style processes to control what are effectively natural disasters made them intractable as they grew in scale and scope bipartisanpolicy.org/article…

It's why reading these dispatches demonstrate that the failure to have protocols to anticipate, respond, and control these disasters at the national, local, and regional level can effectively sink governments who fail to show their publics they can control immigration effectively

My dad studied with Escalante in the 90s and heard a lot about this story over the years as they maintained a friendship. I had the honor of meeting him in the late 1990s and had a memorable exchange - or debate depending on who you ask - about politics in my family living room
Did anyone else in middle school watch the movie Stand & Deliver about Jaime Escalante’s math class that got accused of cheating, because the students scored too well on a standardized test

We're now seeing parallels with the heights of the U.S. migrant crisis in 2023 where the absence of a protocol coordinating the response between central government, sub-regions, and localities to manage migration events and crisis generated local backlash ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/new…

Always appreciate the shoutout from someone advancing the conversation forward like @akoustov. Hopefully my little account reaches the level of his output on Substack
It's great to see more folks in the immigration policy design space—not just ongoing politics—on stack. Everyone should follow @CramonMigration and his new Ministry of Mobility Design newsletter. Excited to see what he comes up with next! mobilitydesign.substack.com/…
