"God, I thank You that I am not like other men—liars, lawbreakers, deceivers, or even this publisher who raised money for that sinner's family." The discussion surrounding Samuel Sey's detention and impending deportation has been some of the most disgusting I have ever seen around here, and that's saying something. Protestia initially reported what sources told us (and, obviously, what we hoped was true): that Sey's detention stemmed from an immigration paperwork problem rather than his error. When DHS contradicted that account, we updated our reporting. Ordinarily, no big deal. Outlets update info all the time. And whether or not Sey was at fault, and no matter his legal status, his family is clearly in serious financial need. Yet what do we see? Supposed Christians demanding apologies/retractions for our directing potential donations to Sey's family because the claim that he was here legally is being contradicted. Some people are suggesting that his family is profiting from this somehow, or that Protestia was "fundraising for a lawbreaker." Since when did Christian charity become conditional upon innocence, ideological agreement, or personal approval? What Bible are you reading? Christ commands us to love our enemies (Luke 6:27–36). Paul commands us to feed them when they're hungry (Romans 12:20). James condemns those who withhold material assistance from needy brothers (James 2:15–17). Proverbs 24:17 forbids rejoicing when an enemy falls. Yet we seem to have no end of online professing Christians (including pastors!) seemingly delighted by Sey's predicament and demanding financial assistance for his family be shut off. And here's the particularly grotesque irony: Many of these men acknowledge that their black, Ghanaian-born theological opponent is their brother in Christ, while carrying on as if Scripture has nothing to say about this. But the household of God isn't segregated by ancestry, no matter how much some seem to want it to be. And Galatians 6:10 commands us to do good to all, especially those of the household of faith. Sey's wife and children didn't violate immigration law. And even if Sey knowingly broke the law, that doesn't disqualify him from Christian charity. If the fundraiser contains inaccurate information, correct it. Donors deserve the truth. But don't pretend that wrongdoing (even deliberate, which has not yet been demonstrated) eliminates a family's needs. Jesus condemned the Pharisees for neglecting the weightier matters of the law: justice, mercy, and faithfulness (Matthew 23:23). Yet some of you are so eager to "gotcha" Sey for apparently breaking the law that you've forgotten the law of Christ, or that you can uphold immigration law without abandoning Christian charity. Protestia will always err on the side of Christian charity. We have a history of financially supporting people who don't like us (and have openly lied about us) when they truly need it. In this case, I'd argue that if your support for the Sey family's obvious financial need turns on whether the immigration problems were his fault, you should probably keep your money. God doesn't want it.

People attacking @JoelWBerry are out of line. It’s normal—admirable even—to readily defend one’s friends and jump in quickly to help. Whatever the facts about Sam Sey’s case, let’s not lose sight of the fact that we could all use more good friends.

Years ago my brother in law was picked up for this same reason. He supposedly hadn’t done his paperwork or even applied. Turned out that wasn’t true. They had lost his paperwork and he was in jail for three months because of a clerical error. I would wait on this to see what happens. Hopefully they hire and immigration lawyer.
I have received a statement from DHS regarding Sam Sey: “On October 21, ICE arrested Samuel Sey, an illegal alien from Ghana, at the Columbus International Airport. Sey entered the United States legally in 2022 but overstayed his length of admission by over four years, in violation of our nation’s laws. Sey has no pending applications and accepted voluntary departure. He will remain in ICE custody until removed from the United States.   “We do not pick and choose which laws to enforce or where to enforce them.   “We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.” - DHS SPOX As I get more information, I will update.

I am on the road, and just got set up at my next location. I see the darker side of social media (which is most of it) is alive with yammering about Sam Sey. I haven't said anything about it because I, like all the stinking rest of you, haven't a clue what is going on. I don't care who "has a friend who has a friend" and what they say. When Sam gets to speak for himself, then we can comment meaningfully, if we choose to do so. Till then, it is all a bunch of noise, and lots of folks on both sides have jumped to conclusions because they spoke without sufficient facts. That being said, the vile, disgusting behavior of the Christless Nationalists truly turns the stomach. These folks have completely sold out to the same spirit that motivated the Brown Shirts nearly a century ago now. And I have challenged a few to attempt to think rationally and substantiate their wild claims--and found them incapable of so doing. I comment on the grossly unbiblical attitudes displayed in one instance, and they respond, "So you want your country over-run by Muslims" or some other such absurd statement. No, I don't, but you morons yammering on social media while hiding behind anonymous accounts, or following Alex Jones sycophants, are doing a whole lot less about it than I am, that's for sure. It truly is an amazing thing to observe, and, yes, I do believe it is part of judgment upon the culture. So how about we all just learn to sit on our hands and patiently wait for actual, verifiable information to become available? Maybe give brother Sey a chance to speak for himself? Is there any reason why that is a problem? Or to put it another way, if you got caught up in something with the government, would YOU want people to go crazy with speculation before you had the opportunity to explain and defend yourself? Think about it.

For context the US army moved my husband to a different part of the country but kept losing the updated paperwork to adjust his BAH (basic allowance for housing) to the new rate. It’s been nearly six months with us being underpaid. Let’s take the government claims with a grain of salt. @JoelWBerry says Sam’s family will release a statement and is still claiming they have made every good faith attempt to comply with the law. Let’s hear both sides

DHS couldn’t even get his nationality right. Pray for Samuel and his family. They have legal representation and will be fighting this nonsense. Those close to the family dispute that Samuel is voluntarily leaving.

Everybody including Megan reported on the initial statement were informed by members of his family of the situation. They reached out to confirm first, which is the right thing to do. The family members did not know the extent of the situation, which is revealed below. We still do not know the whole story, though. And there’s no excuse for the response from people on the basis of racism that has been rampant. Law is law but the response to it in the guise of racism is not of God and has been evil by many.

My guess is this is why people are breaking their iPhone Duos. They’re putting their thumb in the middle of the screen when they close it. Granted, it shouldn’t be that fragile, but most likely people are pressing the hinge screen area harder than they realize, causing it to break.
Here's how to Fold the iPhone Duo

Apple needs to come forward and issue a recall on iPhone Duo. This phone has a fundamental problem with the hinge, and instances of the phone breaking are not uncommon. Samsung had the courage to do the same, with the first Galaxy Fold. And if Apple cares about its reputation, they should do the same.

Earlier this week, our dear brother Samuel Sey @SlowToWrite was en route to appear on our podcast when he got detained by ICE. Samuel is from Canada, and has been living here as a legal resident of the United States. We are confident this clerical mistake will be fixed, but this has been a terrible experience for his family. Please consider supporting his lovely wife Annie and their three small children as they deal with the legal and living expenses of this terrible ordeal. If you know Samuel, you know what a good man of character he is. So many of us have been blessed by his writing and ministry. Please help! givesendgo.com/support-for-s…
