This is something I've been wanting to make for a while, and it's finally starting to take shape: crimeisdown.com/transcripts/…
I was able to parse out addresses from #ChicagoScanner transcripts and make a live incident map. Try out the demo; if you like, consider becoming a Patron.

The time has come: All of Chicago's police radio zones are now fully encrypted. It is only possible to listen to #ChicagoScanner on a 30 minute delay.

The Chicago Police Department's monthly "crime is down" press release is out. From today's statement:
"Over the past three years, robberies, burglaries, and thefts hit record lows in Chicago. Each of these crime categories saw decreases not seen for the last 50 years."

Due to the generosity of a follower, my #ChicagoScanner YouTube stream has been upgraded to new scanners, which allow me to include P25 Phase 2 channels and reduce the delay so it's like you're listening in real-time.

I haven't had a chance to update the @CrimeIsDown CPD directive tracker, but if anyone is ever curious about what new CPD directives are coming out, just sort the table on this page by "Effective On": directives.chicagopolice.org…

The state of #ChicagoScanner encryption: Zones 5/7, 8, and 9 have been encrypted with a ~30min delay on the Broadcastify stream. Expect more to come.
While it’s technically feasible to upload these delayed streams on OpenMHz too for browsing and archiving, it’s legally unclear.
The audio feeds and recording archive on crimeisdown.com/audio are currently unavailable due to our hosting provider having an outage. Will be back up as soon as possible! Sorry for the inconvenience. OpenMHz.com feeds continue to work.

The first Chicago Police radio zone has gone encrypted: CPD Zone 9 is now encrypted and cannot be listened to with any scanner. OEMC provides a feed however, so listen at broadcastify.com/webPlayer/3… or on a scanner app. #ChicagoScanner

Been making some adjustments to improve reception for @CrimeIsDown streams over the past month, and want to introduce the CPD zones scanning stream: crimeisdown.com/audio/live/c… - this one is streamed from a Motorola radio so it should pick up each zone pretty well. #ChicagoScanner

Unfortunately because of some technical difficulties with the system hosting some @CrimeIsDown streams, the CFD and STARCOM21 Cook South streams will be unavailable this weekend, in addition to my YouTube livestream. Working on getting a more reliable setup to fix these issues.
Thread:
Some news about the future of #ChicagoScanner: the Chicago OEMC's new trunked radio system which CPD and CFD are supposed to move towards now has a "deadline" of Jan. 2024, previously was scheduled for Jun. 2021. Only the first phase has been completed.
System updates are being done today to our streaming servers, so all streams on crimeisdown.com/audio are currently down. We apologize for the inconvenience.
