Today, I was joined by mayors from across Ontario to talk about how we’re tackling the growing number of homeless encampments. With new tools to help mayors, police and the courts tackle trespassing and crack down on illegal drug use, and with new funding to stand up more shelter space for people in need, we’re giving parks and public spaces back to families. Today I had the distinct pleasure as 1stVP @FCM_online to deliver a message at the @NSfedmuni #NSFMFallConference that was well received, and we all agree. “The current municipal revenue model dates back to Confederation, a time when people rode carts and lit their homes by candlelight” “It’s time for a new Municipal growth framework. With only seeing 8 to 10 cents of taxes going to municipalities that are taking on more than ever before this upcoming federal election is a great opportunity to make sure we get the tools we need to provide to our constituents.” More on the MGF : fcm.ca/en/focus-areas/munici… Thank you to @carolesaab and team for positioning us for a strong advocacy effort.

Yesterday, I met with Premier Smith to discuss Edmonton’s ongoing request to restore the Grants in Lieu of Taxes (GIPOT) and additional steps the province can take to ensure equitable treatment for Edmontonians. Since the province reduced GIPOT funding in 2019, Edmonton has lost $80 million in provincial support. We continue to lose $15M annually - directly impacting our city’s tax levy. Fully restoring and retroactive funding for GIPOT will bring fairness back to Edmontonians. We also discussed the $17 million Edmonton spends annually to maintain provincial highways within the City of Edmonton limits - something that Calgary does not have to do, directly impacting the city’s tax levy as well as provincial support for major infrastructure projects, like Calgary’s downtown arena, and lack of equivalent funding for here. This funding is critical for maintaining equity as well as financial stability for Edmontonians. I’ve assured Premier Smith that when funding is restored for the Grants in Lieu of Taxes, and funding is in place for the maintenance of provincial highways within City Limits, we will use those funds to reduce property tax increases and make life more affordable for Edmontonians Premier Smith assured me that she is taking my request seriously and I want to thank her for our productive conversation. I look forward to continued collaboration as we work together to build an Edmonton for all of us. #yeg #yegcc #ableg

I want to applaud the people in this video. The bear marching is hard to watch, but each one of them stepped up to serve. Most voices on X have never done that. Drill proficiency can be easily improved with practice, but good character is increasingly very hard to find. 🇨🇦
As a 14 year-old in the Argyle cadet corps I marched better, had better training and could perform drill better than this. Does drill matter? Anyone who has been in the military will tell you the answer. Yes. It serves a purpose. This is sad.
