I love the idea that William and Catherine would rather let Meghan call them racist domestic abusers on Netflix for millions of dollars than expose her own dad as an abuser. Seriously, who benefits from that? In your universe, William and Catherine were leaking stories about bridesmaids’ dresses and who made whom cry, but somehow forgot to leak that Meghan’s dad was a grubby nonce? Amazing. The Royal Family couldn’t even get Meghan to wear tights or a hat, but shutting up about her dad was the one rule she obeyed, even for six years after leaving the UK? Do you actually hear yourself? Meghan left the Royal Family and England more than half a decade ago. She can realistically have met William and Catherine only a handful of times all those years ago. Charlotte was a toddler. She’s now a tween. This is fucking ridiculous. And I’m sorry, but Meghan simply isn’t that important to the Royal Family that they’d spend years protecting her at their own expense. For context, at the very time you’re arguing Meghan knew her dad was a nonce and the Royal Family supposedly forbade her from doing anything about it, she was cold-emailing Edward Enninful about guest-editing Vogue. She was doing it with Sunshine Sachs in America, against the advice of her Kensington Palace team, who suggested that if she was going to put out a Forces for Change 👀👀👀 cover, she might at least include the fucking Queen. Then, a few weeks later, against her KP staff’s wishes again, she flew off on Amal Clooney’s private jet for a half-million-dollar baby shower, complete with paparazzi arrangements and her mates merching every last detail. But we’re supposed to believe that this was a woman determined to be a force for change who was willing to destroy the reputation of the future Queen over bridesmaids’ dresses, yet somehow couldn’t find the courage to go to the FBI about her own dad? The only person who benefited from keeping a nonce dad out of the story was Meghan. And I imagine William, who told Harry to slow down and whose own brother accused him of being a snob for suggesting he didn’t know Meghan very well, would have been absolutely fucking delighted to be vindicated by evidence that the woman he barely knew had a father like that. Think about it. What possible incentive did William and Catherine have to protect Meghan from the consequences of her own family circumstances, particularly when she was perfectly happy to let them take the reputational hit for her own public narrative? This theory requires you to believe that the Royal Family was simultaneously powerless to stop Meghan ignoring its advice, leaking against its interests and pursuing her own publicity, yet somehow powerful enough to keep her silent about her own father for years after she’d left. It makes absolutely no sense. Stop trying to turn the Royal Family into the custodians of Meghan Markle’s family secrets. The woman was building her own brand, making her own decisions and operating with her own American PR team. She was not a helpless prisoner who could only speak when William gave her permission. And if we’re going to speculate about who benefited from keeping the truth about her father out of the public domain, perhaps start with the person whose reputation that truth would have damaged most.
